Video has been released which shows how the self-driving Uber car killed a pedestrian.
An Uber spokeswoman said the company was fully cooperating with the local authorities.
The autonomous Uber had a safety driver at the wheel, as was required for Ubers autonomous test vehicles operating on public roads, Tech Crunch reported.
Police said that the Uber was driving northbound near Mill Avenue and Curry Road when a woman attempted to cross the street with her bicycle in front of the vehicle outside, of a crosswalk, KNXV reported.
In the video, you can see Elaine Herzberg, 49, suddenly appear in front of the car.
The pedestrian was hit by the Uber while it was traveling 40 m.p.h. in a 45 m.p.h. zone.
After being struck, Herzberg was transported to a nearby hospital where she died, police said.

I watched the video. No wa gh I would have hit that woman. The left lane was free of traffic. Too easy to swerve
Interesting point...
I agree. I think any alert driver could have avoided completely mowing the woman down and quite a few, with really good reflexes, would have missed her entirely.
Also, that video is too dark and I agree with some here that the brightness quality was probably tampered with to hide evidence. In addition, human vision was probably better at the scene than the image caught on camera and the woman might have been visible from further away than we are led to believe by the video.
Per one source, allegedly divorced two weeks prior to the accident. Was staying with a friend who lived not far from the scene of the incident. Reportedly some analysis indicates she was toting the bicycle under the left arm, possibly due to problem with the bicycle.
Friends and family are pursuing legal action. They are harshly criticizing local law enforcement’s characterization of Elaine Herzberg as a homeless bag lady.
Interesting narrative initially released to the press with many inaccuracies subsequently coming to light.
Very interesting and it doesn’t surprise me. We are so often lied to by our media outlets. Whether it was an unfortunate woman dealing with a broken bike on top of other crushing stress in her life or a person suffering from addiction and not fully aware of her surroundings, neither deserved to be run down in the street by technology that is not ready to be tested on the public. I hope the friends and family will find justice for her unnecessary death. It will, also, serve to keep the manufacturer from sweeping it under the proverbial rug, which they will do if they can grease enough palms.
