Charges have been dropped against Erdogan’s guards in US

American prosecutors have dropped charges against 11 members of Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan’s guards who were accused of attacking peaceful protestors in Washington in 2017.

According to a report by Wall Street Journal, prosecutors asked judges to drop charges against four guards in November. Then they dropped charges against seven others on February 14, the day before State of Secretary Rex Tillerson’s visit to Turkey.

A source told WSJ that Tillerson, in his private talks with Turkish leaders, pointed to the decisions to drop charges—which hadn’t been publicized or announced—as an example of how the U.S. had addressed Mr. Erdogan’s grievances.

Erdogan’s guards attacked peaceful protestors in front of the Turkish embassy after receiving orders from Erdogan himself.

Videos of the incident show the guards punching and kicking protestors. Nine of them were hospitalized.

The attack was described as an unprovoked and “brutal attack on peaceful protesters” by District of Columbia Police Chief Peter Newsham.

The prosecutors are pursuing assault charges against four other members of Mr. Erdogan’s security team, as well as two Canadian citizens, none of whom have been arrested.

Two American citizens are awaiting sentencing after they pleaded guilty in December to felony assault charges for their roles in the incident.

A good reason to be glad Tillerson is gone.

Now, the question is, did he orchestrate this, or was this done on his behalf by career State Department types. If the latter, they need to be gone.

The "grievances" of the people who got beat up? Put some ice on it.

Agree. Now, I don’t think they can dismiss the civil lawsuits brought by the injured.

When I first saw the video of this attack it looked like the guy on the left has a weapon in a shoulder holster. Wonder what clearance he has to be out in public like that?

WTF? Tillerson is such a scumbag.

OK... maybe it was a necessary diplomatic trade off. But who pays for the injuries of the people who were beaten up?

I don’t know. I suspect those are civil suits. If so, it is doubtful they will collect a judgment on a foreign citizen in Turkey. Some of the perps were US citizens if I remember.

Blowback is coming toward Turkey from the Efrin (Afrin) invasion and ethnic cleansing.

Funny how none of the papers or NEWS Tee-Vee shows covered this.

Would it be all that bad if we evacuated all US personnel from Turkey quietly in the nite, then detonated all of our nuclear weapons we “forgot” there?

Remember, there are no law in Turkey other than what Erdogan says.

There is no “Adalet” (Justice) in Turkey.

Yes, I feel confident he is.

Trump owns a property in Istanbul.

But I sense that Trump is weary of Erdogan’s nonsense.

I don’t know. I personally still like Tillerson. He did not need the job of Secretary of State. I thought it was a good fit.

But in dealing with Erdogan the Islamist Dictator of Turkey, he might not have been the best match.

We shall see.

Many of these guys were members of Erdogans security detail. He was on the scene in his limo, and apparently personally gave the order for the attack.
