The woman needed an RFID chip and to have her real time position transmitted to the vehicle so it could slow to a crawl as it passed her so she coukdn’t jump out in front and get hit.
I’m not seeing any speculation in any venue that the car’s LIDAR sensors worked or didn’t work. That’s what’s supposed to be the big deal with autonomous cars, that they have visual plus radar.
Did it even start to slow down? It’s not a viable system if it has zero recognition of a pedestrian in the middle of the road.

At some point there may be an option like that, perhaps built into cellphones. But it should be optional.
These cars are equipped with Radar and night vision supported by A.I..
They love to tout as features that make their autonomous vehicle safer than a human driver, as the computers systems can see further ahead than a human driver.
