Trump signs $1.3 trillion spending bill despite veto threat on Twitter
Washington Post ^ | March 23, 2018 | John Wagner and Mike DeBonis

Just hours after threatening a veto, President Trump said Friday afternoon that he had signed the sweeping $1.3 trillion spending bill passed by Congress early Friday and averted a government shutdown. In a morning tweet, Trump said he might veto the omnibus bill because it does nothing to address the fate of young undocumented immigrants known as “dreamers” and does not fully fund his border wall. But speaking to reporters at the White House about four hours later, Trump said he had decided to sign the bill despite his reservations, arguing that it provides much-needed funding for the military, including a pay increase for troops and new equipment.Just hours after threatening a veto, President Trump said Friday afternoon that he had signed the sweeping $1.3 trillion spending bill passed by Congress early Friday and averted a government shutdown.

Remember one of Trump’s most quoted pieces of advice; “Never give up.”

Shame he wasn’t listening to his own advice today.

>> We’re gonna build a wall <<

I’m puzzled as to why the Omnibus Bill doesn’t have a clause saying that Mexico will pay for the wall.

That way, the full 2000-mile wall could have been authorized even though there would not have been a corresponding appropriation.

(But maybe I’m just to dense to understand these weighty matters of state.)

This does not make me happy. He is surrounded by people who do not have this country or his interest in mind. I am this close to just dropping out of politics all together. Until Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell are gone I will not be donating another nickel.

I am trying to view it like you. I just hope the tariffs, the cut regulations, and businesses returning to the U.S. will be enough to offset our getting deeper into massive debt.

But it is embarrassing to have the Democrats gloating over how they win whether they are in the majority or not.

Here I thought he was resolute. It’s also time get rid of Mueller & Sessions — enough worrying what the Dems threaten.

“Trump fought the swamp and the swamp won.”

They won this battle, but that doesn’t mean they will win the war.

I have faith in Trump.

You have to be a realist. Fighting, losing a battle that you knew you can’t win doesn’t help your agenda.

Trump is not giving up. This is just one battle. He may still win the war.

>> Many are liberals posing as Trump voters <<

Never saw so much Trump-bashing on FR. I wonder if any of today’s bashers are actually Putin’s trolls at KGB HQ in St Petersburg?

I mean, Putin might be extremely agitated by the fact that Pres. Trump has just named John Bolton as National Security Advisor. I can’t think of anybody in American public life who has a more anti-Russia outlook than Bolton. So maybe Vald has told his trolls to go full blast against DJT today on American social media.

Now maybe the Dems will like him and start speaking favorably of him.

NOT!

He will have both sides hating on him now.
The dems will always hate him and now conservatives will be hating.

I also thought that his statement about the bill was great - pulled no punches and blamed the Dems for politicking with DACA. Also requested an end to the filibuster.

The question is whether the GOP will take him up on it.

Never saw so much Trump-bashing on FR.

Trump should have had our back. He didn’t. He even tweeted this morning that he might VETO the bill, just to make SURE his base was good and pissed off when he didn’t. His behavior today makes absolutely no sense - and you wonder why people are disgusted with it.

Trump had no choice.

He could have channeled Nancy Reagan and "just said No".

Instead he showed us when push comes to shove, he is just another Nancy.

*sigh*

At least he told them: Read my lips, 'I'm not going to do it again."

You are underestimating the President’s supporters just like the President. Some of us are for real — not sheep.

Congress was going to override his veto, even if he vetoed it. He had no choice.

The very definition of going along to get along.

Why vote for Republicans..?

I don’t get it.

Smaller fire, see tagline.

But even in the veto threat Tweet he said that he wanted protections for 800,000 Dreamers in exchange for the Wall. I don’t want protections for 800,000 Dreamers.

Very true. Parodoxically, we owe POTUS our support now more than ever if the swamp will ever ultimately be drained. His hand was forced (as was Reagan’s before him) on this insofar as his vital military build-up was bought at the cost of the swamps other priorities.

My remaining hope now is his base supporters still turn out in the midterms or we and our Republic are truly in trouble.
