“We will BAN all devices that turn legal weapons into illegal machine guns,” Trump tweeted.”

“No chess in that statement - just pure unadulterated ignorance regarding how firearms work.”

Until now I haven’t cared much about bump stocks. A friend of mine had an “actuator” (a little trigger crank device) he attached to his AR-15. It was, I figured, similar to what a bump stock must be, that is using a “device” to pull the trigger faster than you can with just your finger, thus avoiding the laws on “automatic weapons.

SORT of... I just watched a video (non political) about bump stocks.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2IOZ-5Nk5k

A good video even if you are not that familiar with guns.

After watching this video, I am convinced that adding a bump stock to an AR-15 turns that AR-15 into a fully automatic fire weapon.

It is a “too cute by half” way of getting around the law.

It won’t be for long.

Yes, they should be illegal! If you think that automatic weapons should be illegal, then you should have no problem making bump stocks illegal.

I know, camel’s noses and tents, but we DO have gun laws, and some are good.

I see 2 choices here.

1. Make automatic weapons legal
or
2. Make bump stocks (and any other like devices) illegal.

Make no mistake, an AR-15 with a “bump stock” makes it an automatic fire weapon.

Watch the video and tell me it isn’t!

(actually don’t tell me, I never read any responses to my posts)

“Fully automatic weapons have been banned in the U.S. since 1986, but bump stocks were described by the ATF in 2010 as “a firearm part and is not regulated as a firearm under the Gun Control Act or the National Firearms Act.””

A “technicality” in the law!

The “spirit” of the law was to ban “automatic fire” weapons.
Laws have to be “written”, courts have to interpret.

Clearly, bump stocks , are a way to circumvent the law.

Bump stocks should be made illegal. Like every other law, only by enforcement will anything change.

Also, like with other illegal items, anyone who really wants one will get one. Criminals won’t care that owning a bump stock is illegal, they are ALREADY CRIMINALS!

Laws don’t STOP anything. Enforcement doesn’t STOP everything.

The best we can hope for is a reduced number of illegal items out there and a reduced number of people possessing them. Unfortunately, the largest proportion of the reductions will be by normally law abiding citizens.

Okay. In that case, I still don't think bump-stocks should be illegal.

I think they are stupid and that they turn an accurate, quick firing weapon into a spray and pray disaster - but I still don't think they should be illegal.

Also, the fact remains that a bump-stock simply does not make a semi-automatic weapon fully-automatic. Fully automatic is defined as firing more than one round with a single pull of the trigger. Bump stocks do not provide that function.

PS - Do not tell me whether or not to respond to you. Your arrogance, condescension and narcissism are your problems, not mine. I responded because you made a ridiculous claim which needed to be refuted.
