Growing questions about CNN's airport monopoly as network veers left
Fox News ^ | 3/23/18 ? | Brian Flood

CNN’s ubiquitous presence in airports -- where it broadcasts from thousands of screens to a captive audience of millions -- is facing new scrutiny after the cable network's hard left turn.

***

“How are airports justifying the idea of bombarding captive viewers with content many of them oppose? Sadly, almost any outlet is fairer now than CNN,” Gainor said.

CNN pays airports to leave the network on ***.

The airport version of CNN, which launched back in 1992, airs in roughly 60 of America’s most bustling travel hubs. Trip Savvy recently listed the 25 busiest airports in America and 20 of them are listed as airports participating in CNN Airport. When pitching to advertisers, CNN hypes avid travelers as a valued demographic who often rent cars, stay in lavish hotels and make a comfortable salary.

Pop culture blogger Gary Holmes recently penned a column demanding to have CNN removed from airports. ***

Holmes also pointed out that most travelers have a smartphone and the ability to access news whenever. He pondered, “Do we really need a news program to be constantly blaring in the airport at all?”

According to Holmes, “the business of supplying airport video is just that -- a business,” and CNN is likely to remains a dominant provider as long as “airports look at the bottom line instead of what’s best for the mental health of travelers.”

I make a point of donning earphones whenever I’m stuck at the airport.

Oh, and I have read many times that CNN OWNS those televisions and the feed that goes into them, and airport employees have no control over what channel they are tuned to.

Seems like every place I go where I have to sit and wait in a reception area or other places like therapist's office (she always had her monitor set to CNN), I am assaulted with their garbage and pornography.

"... as network veers left ..."

What an idiotic title!

It is scientifically and/or mathematically impossible for CNN to "veer left"...If the political spectrum is analogous to the real number scale, how do you decrease a number once you've reached negative infinity???

You can’t veer left, if you’ve always been left from the get-go.

CNN pays the airports to broadcast and CNN owns the TV’s and hardware in the airports.

If I traveled a lot I’d carry a universal remote with me and change all the channels myself.

Interesting arrangement. Brings back some memories of the old Dumont TV network, which was sold a brand of TV sets.

As I recall, they wanted to be both a TV network and sell TV sets. They looked at selling TV sets and running a TV network as complementary businesses.

Many here are too young to remember the Dumont network. I think they went out of business in 1955 or 1956.

Many don’t know that, in the early post world war 2 period , the three major TV networks were NBC, CBS, and Dumont.

I wish the channel could be changed. CNN is becoming increasingly disgusting. I made a point to quickly check what they cover and for days now ever time I flicked it one there is that dark haired woman talking about Trump and only that. CNN is obsessed with her.

I didn't stick around to watch CNN. But is this all they report?

Holy f*c! CNN is THE only thing ever allowed to air on every single GD TV in every GD break room and the GD lunchroom where I work. I simply cannot enjoy public spaces anywhere in the building without being forced to listen to the NON-STOP BS anti-Trump spew.

There, got it off my chest. Thanks, FR

CNN has veered left so much that they are running in circles.

I’m mean, use the TV remote control function on your smart phone to change the TV channel on those airport TV’s.
