Attorney General Jeff Sessions names prosecutor to investigate FBI allegations.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions designated U.S. attorney John Huber as the prosecutor tasked with looking into allegations of abuse of power at the FBI.

In a Thursday letter to Congress, Sessions said this appointment was made in response to requests for a special counsel investigation of the claims. The attorney general said, however, that Huber will be the one determining "whether any matters merit the appointment of a special counsel....In his letter, Sessions said he will take the necessary actions to defend the integrity of the Justice Department and its work.

"We understand that the Department is not above criticism and it can never be that the Department conceals errors when they occur," Sessions wrote.

The attorney general said he expects the department's staff to operate with the "highest level of integrity, ethic, and professionalism."

"If anyone falls short of these standards, I will fulfill my responsibility to take necessary action to protect the integrity of our work," he said.

He’s an Obama nominee. That in itself, is a red flag, but I’m hoping all will be OK

Déjà vu all over again?

Remember all the glowing reports about Mueller's professionalism and sterling record when he was first appointed Special Counsel?

It looks like a good move to me. Huber was well liked by Attn. General Ashcroft. He’s from Utah, which is about as far from the coasts and DC as you can get.

He's an Obama appointee.

“Remember all the glowing reports about Mueller’s professionalism and sterling record when he was first appointed Special Counsel?”

Good point.

Let’s see how the Dems and the media (but I repeat myself) react to Huber tomorrow. The worse, the better.

Geez! Just hearing from Varney & Ed Rollins that this guy is an Obama holdover!!!!

Weren't there only two Obama holdover US attorneys?

Huber and of course Rubinstein and they are now both in charge of draining the swamp.

Geez is right.

Finally. A voice of reason.

If people want the criminals prosecuted, the next step is the appointment of a SPECIAL PROSECUTOR.

People can bitch, moan, complain, clutch their pearls, and faint like goats.

The rest of us will observe what unfolds as grownups are wont to do.

“He’s an Obama appointee.”

I believe that Home State Senators (Orrin Hatch and Mike Lee) have a big say in the US Attorney appointments in their states, like they do with federal judges.

Utah is among the most Conservative in the whole country - their judges and prosecutors tend to reflect that.

Prior to his nomination by Obama, John Huber had been a career prosecutor in Utah, who had worked his way up to being National Security Section chief and the Executive Assistant U.S. Attorney - so it seems that he was an internal hire (next in line) rather than a political appointee being dropped in by Obama.

We’ve sat here and bitched for thirteen months while the most lawless, corrupt DOJ in history is allowed to run amok and may very well yet subvert a duly elected president. We have also been subjected to the cheerleading of blind Sessions apologists. What has Sessions done to stop the lawlessness within the DOJ? All the talk about The Obama appointed IG has resulted in nothing. The collusion leakers still have no fear after 8 months of a so called investigation. Are you really satisfied with the state of affairs in the year old Sessions’ DOJ. Do you find fault with anything Sessions has or has not done regarding the Russian witch hunt? Passing the buck on a decision any real AG would have made a year ago is more typical Sessions stonewalling.

Trump re-appointed this Utah Ute.

Sessions recommended Huber to Trump.

“It is possible that Huber is looking at FISA abuse, AND other Prosecutors may be pursuing other charges. Why not? “

I think you’re on to something. Those thousands of sealed indictments have got to be coming from somewhere!

Well liked by Ashcroft is one he’ll of a loss-poor recommendation. Ashcroft made Neville Chamberlain look like Patton and was of very meager conservative credentials.

Probably because no one trusts the DoJ to investigate itself. But that may just be me.

"He's an Obama appointee."

Not exactly. He was first appointed by Obama, but he resigned at the end of Obama's term. Trump reappointed him, with Senator Mike Lee's support.

You mistakenly assume GOPe conservatism and Trump MAGA are one and the same. Utah is among the most important Never Trump ground zeros. With Bishop Romney headed to DC to replace McCain as the leading Never Trumper I don’t have a good feeling about this appointment.

You forgot the part about Sessions giving a temporary 90 day appointment to Huber back in early 2017. And then Trump, after being recommended by Sessions, appointed Huber in August.

He's Sessions' guy. He's likely Rosenstein's guy.

Exactly. As Coulter said, Trump was the only option. He was the only one rough and uncouth enough to say what everyone was thinking. But what if Trump really is a shallow lightweight, and was just mouthing the words that garnered support & approval to satisfy a juvenile, narcissistic personality?

Is this why the DS launched a multi-pronged frontal assault? Did the psyche evaluations & analyses come back concluding he really was a dumb buffoon and could be easily rolled? Is this why everyone has left the cabinet? What if the MIC has made the same determination?

So, here we have the right sentiment, the right issues, but potentially the wrong guy. And yet, everyone else are full, unapologetic DS, no if, and or but about it.

At that point, the realization sets in that it is really all over except for the dying & crying.
