While engaging in a debate over gun control on Twitter, Chelsea Handler made an astounding claim about her armed security detail:
"My armed guards aren’t killing children and don’t have semi automatic weapons."
Of course, it is not astounding that the former E! Channel, former Netflix and apparently future NBC talk show host has armed security guards who don’t kill children, but the notion that they don’t carry handguns that discharge spent cartridges and load a round of ammunition automatically on each trigger pull is dumbfounding and impossible to believe.
Either Handler has employed armed security personnel who employ questionable defensive tactics or Ms. Handler, an outspoken proponent of gun control laws, doesn’t have a fundamental understanding of the weapons she advocates to regulate.
This squares with a recent poll that suggests that a majority (63%) of Americans want to ban semi-automatic weapons. However, there are two problems with the much-ballyhooed poll.
The first problem is the question. Registered voters were asked if they “banning the sale and ownership of all semi-automatic and automatic firearms.” Of course, automatic weapons are already illegal in most cases and lumping them in with semi-automatic is quite problematic if ones goal is to really understand if the American people favor such a drastic gun control measure.
And the second problem is that the poll never properly defines what a semi-automatic weapon is. And as is proven by Ms. Handler’s remarkable statement about her security guards, most Americans (including media figures) have a lamentable lack of fundamental understanding of the very thing they passionately want to restrict.

The Texas rangers carried these in saddle mounted holsters. It beat the crap outa jumping on old paint and landing on there ass after hitting the horse in the side. Wouldn’t have been near as funny though. Jumping over the hind quarters into the saddle would have been a scream to watch.
DA Revolvers are like semi-autos. Pull the trigger, it goes bang.
A revolver can give the same result as a semi-auto. Either Barney with one bullet is guarding her, or somebody with a muzzle loader.

Technically the revolver doesn’t really load until the mid point on the next trigger action. While the semiauto has the loaded chamber prior to the second pull. The results with a person knowing their stuff is pretty comparable. Capacity of loads in the weapon is generally the deciding factor for a lot of people. Also the trigger pull is generally lower on the semiauto. My 27 smith and Wesson is upwards of 9 pound DA. My HK P 30 sk LEM comes in at near 5 pounds all the the way from 1 to ten. I’ve carried both and never felt under gunned.

any firearm can do the job, Chelsea... the term “semi-automatic” may sound scarier but rest assured any standard revolver can kill anyone attacking you just as dead
so you are drawing a distinction without much of a difference
perhaps if you would learn something about firearms.. AND AMERICAN history and American political theory.....and our legal system including, obviously, our Constitution and the Bill of Rights, it could help your aspirations for a political career

Automatic revolvers. Fell out of favor when put to the test during WWI trench life.
I don’t believe the poll but the author is incorrect. Full auto weapons are legal in a majority of states. 38 last I looked.

I like revolvers too and in 60 plus years of shooting, I’ve never had one “jam”.
It’s just wonderful that her security team doesn’t go around killing children. How above the norm.
The folks doing all this harping must think that we in the NRA DO go about killing children in such a way HER gunners don’t.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t believe I’ve ever heard of a mass shooting of innocents committed by an NRA member.
