FBI search warrant on Cohen covered taxi medallion ownership

The FBI sought documents pertaining to Michael Cohen's ownership of taxi medallions when it raided his home and offices on Monday, according to CNN.

The request for information on the medallions came in a search warrant authorized by a U.S. District Attorney in New York.

Cohen, who has worked as an lawyer for Trump since the president's days as a New York real estate developer, reportedly owns a number of the medallions required for operation of the city's iconic yellow taxis, two sources told CNN.

The Monday raid, approved by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, allowed investigators to gather bank records, laptops and documents, some of them related to the hush payment Cohen made to an adult film star who says she had an affair with Trump over a decade ago.

The warrant approved by a judge reportedly included a long list of requests for information on the $130,000 payment in question, disbursed just days before the 2016 election, that legal experts say could have violated campaign finance laws.

One person familiar with the warrant told CNN the warrant likely inquired into some smaller investments outside the attorney's dealings with the porn star known as Stormy Daniels.

According to the Washington Post, Cohen is also being investigated for possible bank and tax fraud.

Schumer wants to pass legislation protecting Mueller. I’ll bet he does. Constitution be damned. These people have no shame.

Sure, you’re allowed. But what if Berman had contributed to Hillary’s campaign and not recused himself from this? Would you be so blasé about it?

I'm waiting with bated breath for the IG report!

Comey and Lynch have thrown each other under the bus. What else is out there?

Never thought the swamp would be happy about being drained.

Well I for one would love to be wrong, but there is zero evidence that I am. Then there is the fact that the IG report was due out last year, and we still do not have a date when it will be released. So your assumption that it will be out in the couple of weeks may also be incorrect. Just sayin.

Taxi medallions are required proof that you have paid the necessary fees to the local govt to run a taxi. It’s a way to keep ‘gypsy’ cabs out of the market. Medallions are/were pretty expensive - thousands of dollars - but ‘gypsy’ Uber and Lyft don’t have to have them, which affects the value.

As far as I remember, it’s not illegal to own one and not use it.

Certainly not worth a midnight knockknock

What the bloody hell is a taxi medallion..doesn’t sound Russian to me..but Mueller can give a rats behind about Russia anymore, he knows there was zero collusion, if there was it would NOT take almost two years to figure out..this is about trying to force Trump to fire him so they can go ahead with impeachment proceedings

Mueller doesn’t seem to have any standing re: hooker payments as ‘campaign’ unless he’s ultimately going after her and her smarmy attny for blackmail. Cohen needs only say the hooker came to him with a sob story that she was broke and had no career left and demanded money or she would play homewrecker. So he says he was protecting the marriage of his friend. End of subject for Mueller.

Uber is sure to have tanked that investment for him.

But it used to be a real insiders’ game.

"Maybe there’s an interest rate differential if you tell them its for improvements on the home, which would have the effect of increasing the home’s value, and their cushion on the loan. If that were so, lying would be a problem."

If that's true, Cohen would have to be a fool to go for a lower rate by lying about the purpose of the loan. If you get a line of credit, there are generally no questions asked about what you might use the money for, so Cohen wouldn't have to say, "It's to pay off a blackmailing porn star."
