Moscow will shoot down any U.S. missiles fired at Syria and retaliate against American launch sites, the Russian ambassador to Lebanon has warned.

Ambassador Alexander Zasypkin made the comments on Tuesday while speaking on the Hezbollah-affiliated al-Manar TV channel, Reuters reported.

President Donald Trump is currently considering military action against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad following Saturday’s suspected chemical attack on the rebel-held town of Douma near the capital city of Damascus. Medical relief groups say the attack killed dozens of civilians.

“Considering the Russians can’t even force a decision in Ukraine where they have a land border, Russia is no longer capable of WWIII.”

Yeah, I bet if we just kicked in the door, the whole rotten structure would fall down. Realistically, if we got started by mid-June, we could be done before winter hit. I don’t even think our guys would need to take winter equipment.

Why do we let our rebels get away with chemical weapons use?

Your question is based on a falsehood

The T-5 nuclear torpedo they were armed with was notoriously unreliable as well and had ceased production in 1960.

They were out of air, battery power and the air conditioning broke but they caught all kinds of grief back in the USSR when they surfaced.

I knew firearms have sights.
So do the LAW, Dragon, TOW, redeye, and stinger systems.

I don't think Tomahawks do.

Putin would like the world to think he's the Soviet Union in 41' but he's more like the Ottoman Empire in 1912.

In the case where the risk is nuclear holocaust, our own existence would have to be on the line for it to be any less than insane to consider running that risk.

I certainly can’t argue with that. I’m just addressing the concept of the effectiveness of MAD. The real question is this: Is a particular action REALLY risking nuclear holocaust, or is someone just saber rattling.

If we threaten to nuke Moscow, we’re risking Nuclear holocaust. If we threaten to fight against Assad, we are not, unless the leaders of Russia are genuine mad men. In which case, every time they say BOO and we don’t jump, we’re “risking” nuclear holocaust.

But I’m speaking only academically, We should not be involved in a civil war.

Yeah, life is a risk. But I don’t wanna risk WWIII on behalf of ensuring a Sunni-al qeida regime takes over from Assad in Syria.

Me neither. And, I suspect, neither to Trump and Putin. This doesn’t rise to that level.

Now, threaten to invade Moscow, and the risk may be, um, higher.

So gas is bad, nuclear annihilation is good???

When did I say gas is bad?

My take is that if you are going to be in a conflict that forces your hand to inflict death on your enemy, that death should be as humane as reasonably possible. But if you are fighting for your survival, all bets are off.

In Syria we are not fighting for our survival. Frankly, I don’t really know why we’re there.

Trump was dealt a crappy hand once again by Obama. Sooner or later he’s going to have to deal with Russia and Iran. Better now rather than later.

No good solution here other than to go into it to win.

In summary, you have to expect Russia is going to go all out to defend Syria and will respond. Good, we will too.

You have US, France, Britain and Israel all in.

No good solution here, Folks, but can’t believe Trump will run away, unless he has some iron clad deal with Russia that they will withdraw from Syria.

So we launch tomahawks at Syrian Air bases, will that include Russian bases? Will it target Assad himself? Will it shoot down all Syrian Air Force? will that include Russian planes? What happens if Russian ships sail out to attack the ships that launched the rockets? What is subs sink these offending ships? If they use the British base in Cyprus—what if Russian bomb the base? What if Bombers are sent from Crimea, to fly over Turkey and bomb US bases in Syria, with the permission of Assad. Russia can get revenge. Is this worth Millions of lives?

“What Russia lacks is major military capability short of a nuclear attack. “

You nailed it. This reminds me of an elderly man with a 38 snub in his pocket. He has no options to run or fight, but he might use the only tool he has if it is a matter of survival in his mind.

Actually the rebels have said that they are quite willing to use ANY means whatsoever to kill anyone who disagrees with them. At least 5 documented cases of CW use. Plus they held tens of thousands of people hostage in East Aleppo. Those who escaped fled to government controlled areas.

Good solution is rather simple : wait for the results of the investigation, OPCW team(s?) should be in Ghouta tomorrow. This is not running away.

Going ahead with the strike will at the very least cost Trump a big chunk of his base.

Incidentally, how is Cruz doing today? I do not see him cheering for the strike. No, I do not mean he is sincere, now or ever, but he is so tactical.....

If Russia is really done with communism and now detests it, why do they continue to prop up and ally with every communist and hard left regime on the planet?

How Russia arms America's southern neighbors

Ioan Grillo
May 9, 2014

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil -- Russia's push into Ukraine has put many on edge. But less known is that Russia is also strengthening its military links south of the Rio Grande and re-establishing itself as a power in the region.

Vladimir Putin has been strengthening military links here, and Russia is now the largest arms dealer to governments in Latin America, surpassing the United States.

Russia has even floated the possibility of building new military bases in Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, and putting its warships permanently in the Caribbean.

In the midst of the Ukraine crisis, Russia's top diplomat Sergei Lavrov recently visited Cuba, Peru, Chile, and Nicaragua, where he announced that Russia would also pour money into the new Central American canal project. ..."

Russia Boosts Arms, Training for Leftist Latin Militaries

Moscow defense minister inks deals with Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua for joint exercises

BY: Bill Gertz
February 20, 2015

Russia agreed to provide military training for three leftist regimes in Latin America and increase military visits and exercises following a visit last week to the region by Moscow's Defense Minister Sergei Shoygu, Pentagon officials said.

Shoygu met with defense and military leaders in Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua and signed several agreements on warship visits and military training during the visit, which ran from Feb. 11 to 14. It is not clear whether any new arms deals were completed during the visit.

Defense officials said the Russian leader is seeking bases in the region for strategic bomber flights that Shoygu recently promised would include flights over the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean.

North Korea nuclear crisis: Putin calls sanctions useless

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said pursuing further sanctions against North Korea is “useless”, saying “they’d rather eat grass than give up their nuclear programme”.

The US said on Monday it would table a new UN resolution on tougher sanctions in the wake of the latest test of a nuclear bomb by the North on Sunday.

Mr Putin also said that the ramping up of “military hysteria” could lead to global catastrophe.

He said diplomacy was the only answer.
