Sparsely populated areas, comparing to SF or Wash, DC or New York for that matter (I'm in NY :( ). Plus urban voters don't have good surviving skills.

True. Just wait until Whole Foods runs out. I remember them showing empty shelves after Amazon(?) took over.

The big cities will be very bad places to be in any sort of real crisis / national emergency.
