California could vote on separating into 3 states in November

April 13 (UPI) -- A venture capitalist billionaire said he received enough signatures to get a measure on California's November ballot that asks voters if they want to split California into three states.

Tim Draper, the chairman of Cal 3, the organization pushing the measure, said they've obtained more than 600,000 signatures -- nearly twice the number needed to get on a state ballot -- and will present them to the California Secretary of State for verification.

If they did this, then the state of “California” would not exist anymore - right ? So does that leave us then with 49 states? Do these three “new” states get automatic acceptance to the “United States” ?

U.S. Constitution, Article IV, Section 3, paragraph 1:
“New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new State shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or Parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned was well as of the Congress.”
It is doubtful that the Legislature & Congress would go along with the break up of California. So this ballot initiative means nothing.

Given that the US Congress wouldn’t agree, and the governor is flouting federal immigration law, does this mean that, if the proposition passes in November, that Calif would then be in a state of rebellion and secession from the US?

Why could they NOT split “vertically” (east/west) in certain areas.

I agree. The way this split breaks down would ensure six liberal Senators. The SF Bay Area needs to be included in the "California" portion, not "Northern California."

Nope... all blue. Don’t forget the mexican population in what would be “SoCal.” NorCal would have the poisonous SF Bay Area, so all three would be hardcore blue states.

It’s a trap! Just a way to create 4 more Progressive Senators

It might seem that way but this state gets real Red when you go 50 miles in from the coast. Extra senators will most likely be Republican.

What will CA do for a military? RE: water, I guess they will have a plant to de-salt the ocean. Also, the US will definitely build a wall to keep the Californians out. Can’t have them invading our great country.

Is it bluster and mind twaddle for the progs, or are they really that stupid given at some point is this succession almost sedition and this will have to be quelled with military force? Do they really want to go their? Tell me where I am wrong in my analysis and I will stand corrected....

Even if adopted by the state of California, the U.S Congress would have to agree to this plan.

What are the chances of that happening?

Assuming this fantasy became reality, the area that is currently California would end up with a total of six senators. Two from current California, plus 2 more for each of the new states.

It is very possible to split up California into 3 majority communist states instead of one. Sacramento can do it.

I only wish the following Counties north of Monterey up to and including San Francisco - San Benito, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, San Mateo (the county S.F. is in) and Alameda, were not put in North California and left in the new California. That would increase the GOP % in North California.

The U.S. military, of course.

The story is about California potentially dividing itself in to three states, not forming one or more new countries.

Names come to mind.

That strip along the coast between LA and SF: Gerrymandia

Farther north? Pelosia or maybe Snobbovia

Is Siliconia Near SF, or part of Hollywood?
