How about forcing the IRS & the Social Security Administration to tell the true holders of Social Security numbers that their number has been stolen?

There are over 1.1 MILLION such cases, and neither agency will notify the correct holder of the number. That can only lead to further confusion when it is time for a person to retire.

It's up to you to ‘follow up’ if your Soc. Security Number is stolen. Just reporting isn't nearly enough. It's also up to you to protect yourself. "Lifelock" etc offer such services.

I had someone using mine in another state to claim death benefits, which I wouldn't have know of had I not been pro-active by frequently checking credit rating companies as the companies informed such. If you expect the government is going to notify you then you're looking in the wrong place.
