Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said that whether the United States will launch further attacks against the Syrian regime will depend on whether Syrian President Bashar al-Assad uses chemical weapons again.

“Right now, this is a one-time shot. We believe it has sent a strong message to deter him from doing this again,” he told reporters. “Right now we have no additional attacks planned.”

I’d say that all 103 missiles were probably destroyed. That terminal explosion at the target site tends to be tough on them. :)

Russia blinked and relegated herself to some “how dare they pretend to lecture us” blather...whatever the actual circumstances, Trump is right that of Russia did what she said she would do, there would be no chemical weapons to be used in Syria....and they know he is right......Putin’s bluster holds no sway with this President.

Russia did nothing.

And - they didn’t even turn their radar for the S-400s on as they knew they could be taken out.

Last year. Syria claimed shot down 40.

Reality was that 68 of 69 hit their targets. They may have gotten lucky and got 1. More than likely it just missed the target lol.

Yep - Trump and Putin both kn ow that Russia can’t do anything more than make a lot of noise when it comes to us...Putin wants to extend his hegemony in the area and use Syria as his personal “control center” and work with Iran to make life tough for us.

So since this was all a stunning success, can we stop wasting money on shiny toys and bring our troops back home? Of have you identified any other cheap, third world dictator who is the next “threat to the world”? My guess to that last question is “yes”, so we’ll need to re-deploy to his backyard too, huh?

From the twitter video feed, many appeared to be short range SAMs maybe the upgraded S-125s. S-200s ? reported but no videos since they‘d be outta visual range. Worth searching „twitter syria“ for the twitter videos. plenty of videos from different angles of same missiles.

The worthless automatic weapons mounted on trucks ( Zil 23s ? ) could also be seen firing in the twitter videos.

The real time twitter videos lend credibility to the claims of many shoot downs. It’s to be expected that defensive weapons finally have getting useful after 30 years of dominance by offensive weapons. Just the nature of these technological back and forth.

The russians said they didn’t fire any SAMs.

Agreed, the S-400 & S-300 are stupid expensive looking. Typical Russian overbuilt colossal rockets. Hard to hide these lumbering beasts. I think Elon Musk could use a S-400 booster to get to Mars. :)

Thanks for your reasoned answer.

This military action is a mistake, it won’t stop anything. Face it Russia and Asad felt no personal or political pain. Use of military for other than all out regime change does nothing. Unless you are willing to go all out!
