Lindsey Graham "unnerved" after Syria briefing: "Everything in that briefing made me more worried"

Sen. Lindsey Graham slammed the Trump administration's response in Syria, after a briefing with top military officials that he said "unnerved" him, CBS News' Alan He reports.

"Everything in that briefing made me more worried, not less," the South Carolina Republican said after a briefing lawmakers had with Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford on Tuesday. "This makes no sense to me."

Graham went on to say he doesn't know "how in the world we can destroy ISIL relying on local police in a country dominated" by Syrian President Bashar Assad, who the U.S. believes is responsible for the recent suspected chemical attack that left dozens dead. Graham feared that if the U.S. stays on its current course, Syria will fall into the hands of the Russians and Iranians, which would be a nightmare scenario for Israel. Graham said there is no military strategy currently on the table to deal with the influence of Iran and Russia.

"It seems to me we are willing to give Syria to Assad, Russia, and Iran, and we're trying to find some way to leave Syria to keep ISIL destroyed, and I don't see how that works. I hope I am wrong."

"I think Assad after this strike believes we're all tweet and no action," Graham said.

Only weeks ago, Mr. Trump insisted he wanted to pull troops out of Syria, and even after the strikes the U.S. conducted last week, the Trump administration has insisted the mission in Syria remains the same -- destroy ISIS.

In terms of timing for withdrawing from Syria, withdrawal timing, Graham said it seemed like it would be, "conditions-based, but as soon as possible."

"It seems to me the president is going to pull out of Syria as soon as he can," Graham said.

Graham being worried is a good sign. Hopefully Trump will stand strong and overcome the bipartisan war party's efforts to keep us endlessly chained and bleeding in Syria.

If light loafers Lindsay is upset about Syria and Trump’s real strategy, count me ecstatic. Double if the intervention and false-flag-promotion gang here in FR is perturbed.

Anyone else notice that the neocons in this forum seem to be rarely seen or heard from unless there is a suggestion of foreign intervention? And yet, they are almost never heard from in threads about the threat to our freedoms and liberties here at home. Not surprising really - just read what the other neocons think about our Constitution, limited govt and the like.

It means Mattis was smart enough to make up some BS Graham would leak.

Hopefully they have his devices locked down and they can figure out who he’s working for.

The Russians went back to typewriters for all of their sensitive docs about four years ago.

I would imagine that would be looking pretty good to some of the Cabal at this point.

Bad news for you, Linda - Syria is ALREADY in the hands of the Russians and Iranians, thanks to you, McCain, and Obama/Hillary igniting the civil war there. So, unless you’re willing to call for about 500,000 US troops to be deployed there to fight Syria, Iran, and Russia, you’re going to live with the monster you created.

Not everything that happens in the world is the fault of some American or other.

While Linda is going through this phase of menopause she should avoid these briefings because they are upsetting to the point of voiding the positive effects of her medication.
