What the author doesn't say is that the majority of people on the spectrum are fully capable of functioning that way, and would not have been considered autistic 30 years ago.
Speaking as one, I do not consider myself a "public health crisis". I am what I am. And I will fight to the death anybody who tries to force me into being "normal".

Agree!!! 30 years ago we were just called nerds or some other derogatory term. I don't generally consider being on the spectrum a bad thing. Heck, I was a child prodigy probably in part because of it.
However, I have had a rough road when dealing with unethical but socially astute scum in the corporate world. I like to get stuff done and they just want to advance at all costs... take credit from me and push me out before it's discovered. There appears to be far more of those types now than there were in the past.
