In the early 1900's the chestnut fungus was brought into the US. By 1940 almost all of the America Chestnut trees were dead.

8 trillion dollars just in timber was wiped out.

Don't bring fruit across the border.

That’s ridiculous. Somebody is into a power play with her because she’s a reasonably attractive woman or because they see her as ‘privileged’. The airport worker who told her about the fine was almost laughing at her predicament as he informed her. “Was your visit to France expensive? Well, it’s about to get more expensive by $500.” That probably made his day to see the panic and shock on her face. Stupid and petty.

Every thread needs some virtue signalling.

I think the $ from fine goes towards paying for the assessment from the dept of agriculture. At least that is what is sounded like at the end of the article. They can’t just throw fruit away just in case it’s diseased or carries pests, etc.

That was NOT her intent. It was snack, not contraband.

The fruit was passed out on a different flight. I doubt airlines hand out fresh fruit on any inbound US flights. What would the airline do with the leftovers? The airline would be in the same situation as this woman, but on a larger (corporate) level.

Two solutions:

1.She should have declared the Apple as being her Emotional Support Fruit.

2. The Apple could have ask for asylum and was in fear for its life that it might be eaten.

Bull crap. They should have asked “do you have any fruit in your luggage” as they have done every time I have crossed the border back into the U.S. If the answer is yes they say “you’ll have to leave that here.”

Why wouldn’t they just let her throw it away?

The rules are clear. I fly back and forth from the UK. There are fruit cheese and fish dishes on every flight. Can’t import them.

Either eat them or leave them on your tray.

Don’t put them in your carry on.

Delta was behind this...this plot.

They were turning their passengers into Fruit Mules.

Delta was.... pimping their customers out to the apple cartel.

No punishment is sufficient for this outrage against the apple sanctity of the United States. Maybe executions.
