I remember a decade or so ago when Steyn was far and away the best guest host for Rush. Nowadays, I can’t stand more than a few minutes of him, since his constant smarmy, joking attitude about, well, EVERYTHING has long past its sell-by date. Unfortunately, the other losers Rush has standing in for him are even worse, and I won’t listen to them at all.
I don’t know why he doesn’t have James Golden stand in for him. He had his own show on local New York radio years ago and was terrific. Maybe he doesn’t want to do it, who knows.

When Rush is not on, I don’t bother to listen EXCEPT, when Mark Steyn is the substitute. Love him and his sense of humor.
Yup,I recall having heard Snerdley a couple of times...he was excellent.I bet he could do a good as a stand in.
Rush used to say he did not want to give a leg up to some of the prospective hosts. I think it had to do with not wanting to create good competition.

Steyn was a fire breather for many years but I fear that the Canadian trial, his Congressional testimony and other subsequent legal and political battles have left him rather embittered and, unfortunately, somewhat hesitant to let fly if only because he doesn't want to go through the wringer again. Of course, this is exactly what leftists want.
We don't need the first 5-10 min of every hour explaining to us what a guest host is and what a guest host does. We get it. The 'undocumented' joke was worn out long ago.
We also don't need 10 minutes explaining about RL's subscription service and the newsletter. Frankly, anyone still paying for this is a fool given the availability of everything on the internet, including full commercial-free podcasts on YouTube about 30 min after the show has concluded. But you know what they say about fools and their money.
I have seen him speak too. Truly gifted to be so sharp, knowledgeable and humorous.
