You don’t need to copy and paste the entire article. An excerpt will do nicely. Newbies always make this mistake. Freepers are smart enough to access the article and read it for themselves. Really. We are. Trust us.

I'm not a newbie, and I always post the complete article whenever it's allowable. Commenting without reading the article is a longstanding FR tradition. That aside, FR maintains fairly long term archives, I believe everything, it's old searches that can be difficult. Not all sites do that, it's not uncommon for an article several years old to be unavailable at the site. While the originating site likes your suggestion, now the desire of other sites for pings is the underlying reason for requiring excerpting.
