Mr. Trump and senior U.S. officials have suggested repeatedly that Washington's tough policy toward North Korea, along with pressure on its main trading partner China, have played a decisive role in turning around what had been an extremely tense situation.
Just last year, as Kim was launching long-range missiles at a record pace and trading vulgar insults with Mr. Trump, it would have seemed unthinkable for the topic of denuclearization to be on the table.
But the North's statement on Sunday seemed to be aimed at strengthening Kim's position going into his meeting with Mr. Trump. Pyongyang claims Kim himself is the driver of the current situation.

I am guessing that Kim saw the Chinese army gathering on his northern border and that is the driver of the current situation.
**** Kim
Ill wait to hear directly from Kim before I believe it.
Hes more trustworthy.
kim angling for his share of a possible nobel peace prize?
Everyone needs to stop talking and speculating and let the meeting actually take place.
media trying to stir up trouble.
Yep. Trump being successful with NK is about the last thing the media wants.
Mr. Trump??? In the lead sentence? The swamp media did this to Mr. Bush also. For his 8 years, the word after President was supposed to be Clinton. Now it must be Obama.
Fine. He can claim credit. Nobody important cares.
Just git er done!
Oh, well....
I believe some are trying to sabotage this process by crowing over Trump and causing Kim to lose face
What's shown above is not the lead sentence, but starts at the second paragraph. If you go to the article at the link, in the first paragraph, he is called 'President Trump."
Not defending CBS, but is traditional journalistic practice to refer to the President as "Mr." in news stories. The same practice goes for people who are deceased,
I am surprised this has not happened earlier. I have been waiting for the media to jump in and try and screw this thing up.
Thank you for this correction. I did not realize that a paragraph other than the lead would be used with the headline. I stand by my comment on the use of Mr. Bush. O and Clinton were usually referred to by full title or The President. GWB, not so much, especially at press conferences.
Of course that's the role he would portray. Did the corrupt media think Kim would play the beat down loser here?
Make no mistake. There are a whole lot of establishment political hacks, leftist and posers who want this to fail. And some are right here on this site who are now feverishly projecting fail.
