I am around a lot of immigrants ; Indians , Africans , Asians , Pacific Islanders . So few speak English well . Their kids do . All speak heavily accented versions of English , esp Indians , whom despite haven;t been speaking English for centuries still insist on corruption their V’s to W’ and W’s to V’s . Why? Are they not aware of how the word(s) are spelled ? All these ‘immigrants’ chatter away to one another in their families in their foreign languages , esp the Indians . No one around them has any idea what they are talking about and feel hesitant to speak to them . They are thus insular within their little family unit . In public . Yet, if you ask them where they are from , they tell you ‘Baltimore’ , or some such . As if we real Americans are fooled . Suggestion : You want to speak entirely in your native dialect ? Go back to Bangalore , or wherever . Then there is the Pacific islanders . Here for all the jobs and benefits ( Thanks Bill Clinton!) but zero cultural or linguistic engagement with America or Americans . On top of which they are scary drivers ! Just recently out of their canoes I guess . Have immigrants to America always been like this ? Doubtful . I agree with Kelly : They don’t speak English, obviously, he said. Thats a big thing. They don’t speak English. They don’t integrate well.” 100% true.
Actually, there are a couple of Indians at work who speak to each other in English. I have never heard them converse in their native language. We do have a rule at work, English on!y.
