Really? When I am at the grocers, it seems that quite a bit of the food, especially produce, comes from other countries.

I used to work in the food industry. Specifically meat packing.

Labor was the single largest line item on the balance sheet.

I could go into some specifics, but I signed an NDA when I was employed there.

A lot of produce comes from central and South America, especially off season. On season, the trend for the last few years has been to try to source more and more from the US (remember the dust up from country of origin labels?)

For instance, a good amount of the lettuce comes from the Southwest US now.

Ppbbbtthh. Got my armor on. Your idiotic words can’t hurt me. And I’m about as far from Marx as the east is from the west, but then, you know that’s not where I’m coming from; you’re just trying to be a nuisance. Free enterprise doesn’t have to gouge people to succeed. Thank God there are still some honest, ethical people out there who are satisfied with a decent profit, instead of trying to rip people off-— not many, I’m afraid, but enough who follow the Lamb of God, and are ethical business people, to keep our society from rotting entirely. When I stand before my Maker, I won’t have to hang my head in shame for bankrupting or gouging others to make a living. The love of money is the root of ALL evil. And it wasn’t Karl Marx who said that.

Reminds me of home....

You will be fine. But those who don’t process their own food will see the prices go up, and quickly.

Food prices have increased significantly over the past 15 years. It’s called shrinkage.

“Food prices have increased significantly over the past 15 years. It’s called shrinkage.”

Yep,and I find it VERY annoying.

They should have kept the old sizes and raised the prices.

“Unless this thread has confused me, doofus, the so-called “freedom caucus” is part of the problem... ”

I’ve read the Constitution very carefully. I don’t find agriculture prices mentioned a single time as a specific enumerated power of the Federal Government.

Not once.

'The reason we have the fattest poor people in the history of the world is that we have the lowest cost to produce that food.'

BS. Cheap sugars and carbs. Exporting the American diet increases fatties all over the world.

True. But this does not bode well for Scalice or McCarthy taking over
as Speaker when Ryan leaves.

Hiring Americans and not illegals will not raise the cost of food that much. If the labor costs get too high, then they will automate more of the production line and the costs will come down. This has been proven true all throughout time.

My latest shock was to find a “5lb” bag of sugar is now 3lbs.

Before that it was being pissed about “1 lb” bags of coffee being 12 oz. Some of them are even 10 oz now.

“Hint. I don’t buy $0.99 eggs.”

I never conceived there was a difference between .99 eggs and $3.00 eggs until I tried the latter.

Now I buy them fresh and local. The closest thing I can compare them to is the difference between canned vegetables and fresh.

HERITAGE And the worst part is that some Republicans are signing on to this petition.

Just a few days ago, 17 moderate Republicans from vulnerable congressional districts signed the petition that calls for votes on four different immigration policies, all containing amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants!

The four bills being petitioned are 1) the Hurd-Aguilar Bill, a so-called “bi-partisan compromise” on immigration, 2) the Dream Act, a liberal pillar of illegal immigration, 3) the Goodlatte Bill, a semi-conservative bill that still grants amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants, and 4) any piece of legislation Speaker of the House Paul Ryan chooses to introduce.

The tally of Republican signatures on the petition is now up to 20, and they only need 5 more Republicans to sign on to get the full support of the Democrats.

Here is the list of the 20 Republicans that have signed the amnesty discharge petition along with their Heritage Action Scorecard score. Their score tells the whole story.

Florida Representative Carlos Curbelo (32%)

California Representative Jeff Denham (44%)

California Representative David Valado (38%)

Texas Representative Will Hurd (43%)

Florida Representative Mario Diaz-Balart (41%)

Utah Representative Mia Love (82%)

Florida Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (41%)

Pennsylvania Representative Charlie Dent (27%)

Michigan Representative Fred Upton (40%)

Washington Representative David Reichert (26%)

Colorado Representative Mike Coffman (64%)

New York Representative Chris Collins (44%)

New York Representative John Faso (33%)

Nevada Representative Mark Amodei (44%)

New York Representative Elise Stefanik (27%)

New Jersey Representative Leonard Lance (40%)

Pennsylvania Representative Ryan Costello (32%)

California Representative Stephen Knight (43%)

New York Representative John Katko (27%)

Michigan Representative Dave Trott (47%)

If this petition gets 25 Republican signatures, these Republicans will undermine the rest of the Republican party and give control of the immigration debate back to the liberal, amnesty-loving Democrats. And if that happens, nothing will stop them from granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants.

That is why Heritage Action is monitoring the situation closely and working with conservative allies in Congress to make sure this amnesty scheme doesn’t see one more Republican endorsement.

For YEARS I knew how many sandwiches I could make from a can of tuna-——no more, and the same went for a “pound” of bacon.

I detest the smaller sizes.

I’m outta venison and tuna. I’m a victim I tell ya! :)

The produce I buy up here *must* be used w/in 2 days or it needs to thrown out.

Can’t wait for roadside stands and my own, humble produce.

Carry-on. :)
