Ahh, the old lie about how white Southerners abandoned the Democrats because of the Civil Rights Act. It was the flag burning hedonistic, Marxist hippies that caused a huge political realignment in the early 70s. Churchgoers and Patriots saw the hippies rushing to take over the Democratic Party, so they defected to the GOP.
You are right. The turbulent, revolutionary 60’s is what did it...I was there. The filthy race riots and anti-war (which was really anti-American) protests sickened all normal, decent people. Now many of those, their spawn, and grand spawn are wheels in the democrat party. JFK, Truman, and FDR would be republicans now.
