Can Stacey Abrams Change the Way Democrats Win in the South?

Gene Talmadge must be turning over in the grave. On Tuesday, Georgia Democrats chose an African-American woman, Stacey Abrams, as their party’s candidate for governor. And not just any African-American woman. Ms. Abrams, the former minority leader in the Georgia House of Representatives, ran as an outspoken progressive and was endorsed by, among others, Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont and the liberal group MoveOn.org.

When Mr. Talmadge served as Georgia’s governor for three terms during the 1930s and 1940s, the Georgia Democratic Party was viewed as the defender of segregation and white supremacy in the state. After African-Americans began voting in large numbers following the passage of the 1965 Voting Rights Act, Georgia Democrats like Jimmy Carter and Roy Barnes campaigned and governed as moderates and forged biracial coalitions that included a substantial minority of white voters along with the overwhelming majority of African-American voters

No. She is way out of touch with all GA voters except the fever swamp Left. She will have zero cross over appeal.

Playing the Race Card works!

Oh wait... playing the Woman Card didn’t work for Hillary Clinton.

Identity politics... the fake news media and the Democrats never learn.

She has stated that one of her main goals is to remove the carving on Stone Mountain. If she wins, and tries that, there WILL be a civil war in Georgia.

Didn’t Obama show us all where black, radical, leadership would take us? They get the office - not to help all the people - but mostly to aggrandize themselves to the black community, and to put down “whitey”...just like Obama.

Black legislators and office holders legislate for blacks only. The issues they promote are black-only issues. They become black segregationists.

I pray that this woman loses big time.

What the NYT doesn’t note is the Democrats in the South are basically a minority party... their membership is black.

Any thinking white person has already fled them. Stacey Abrams nomination is the culmination of this process.

That’s why Democrats don’t control a single Southern statehouse and they hold only four US Senate seats in the region.

Actually this might be a good thing.

Get the leftist clown posse to poor another $50-100 million into an election in GA they cannot win. Better they spend it here and lose then places they might actually win.

Lol, she’s retarded. She just said tax cuts hurt middle class families.

Her opponent can put that on auto-repeat until the election.

while no doubt she’ll score big in Atlanta and probably up black female turnout statewide, I am highly skeptical that she has any real shot at winning....

Though that won’t stop the MSM from hyping her as the second coming, even if she is polling 20 points down.

She’s liberal. She might have appeal in CA or NY but this is GA.

Abrams has no chance there in November.

I know a few Georgia natives and they are not going to vote for her, that is certain.

But, what are her actual chances of winning? I would figure that wanting to remove the Stone Mountain Carving would be enough to tank her election chances, but can anyone tell me what they think?

Sonny Perdue was hardly a little known s.enator when he ran for governor.

He was the Senate Majority Leader (Democrat) until 1998 before switching parties and running and keeping his seat as a Senator.

Like most blue bubble thinkers the author lives and works in the middle of Atlanta and has no feel for the rest of Georgia or even the Atlanta suburbs.
