Current and former players react to President Donald Trump calling off Eagles' White House visit
NBC Sports ^ | 06/05/2018

Posted on 06/05/2018 6:43:52 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

The reactions will only continue as the week goes on after President Donald Trump disinvited the Eagles to the White House a day before the Super Bowl champions were scheduled to visit (see story).

Politicians with local ties made their voices heard Monday night, while the president also sent out a tweet restating his stance behind the decision (see story).

Some current and former NFL players also chimed in on the news.

"I guess he was upset with the delegation we were sending," Eagles safety Rodney McLeod said of Trump's decision in a text message to NBC Sports Philadelphia's Derrick Gunn.

Former Eagle Torrey Smith, who played a key role in the team's Super Bowl run, tweeted:

There are a lot of people on the team that have plenty of different views. The men and women that wanted to go should’ve been able to go. It’s a cowardly act to cancel the celebration because the majority of the people don’t want to see you. To make it about the anthem is foolish— Torrey Smith (@TorreySmithWR) June 4, 2018

So many lies smh
Here are some facts
1. Not many people were going to go
2. No one refused to go simply because Trump “insists” folks stand for the anthem
3. The President continues to spread the false narrative that players are anti military pic.twitter.com/89GUNhJ4eE— Torrey Smith (@TorreySmithWR) June 4, 2018

Football was great when it was about entertainment, competition and sports. Now that it is just a political tool, well, they can walk the plank.

Exactly, Fans are turning off the NFL in large numbers as ratings showed last year, causing the NFL fix. Idiot players couldn’t let it go, Great move by POTUS Trump to disinvite the Team. To hear these ‘oppressed ‘ players whine is amusing. Poor little cupcakes....Winning...

“Correct me if I’m wrong didn’t Eagles players stand for the anthem all year?”

Dead wrong. What do you expect from a pothead like Reggie Bush?

I would have assumed as much. I had a similar thought about that.

He will probably privately invite them, but tell those who want to squeal about it to the press to disinvite themselves.

Just wish the President would invite Veterans, the Military vs. sports players. So tired of the stupid pettiness.

Yes I know the media would have had a hey day, look only 10 players showed up vs. look how many showed up for Obama blah blah.

Forget about the SPORTS PLAYERS.

You’re right- but why don’t the OWNERS tell them to knock it off? It’s like they are afraid of the players.

I am sure they could find several hundred others willing to be starting NFL players- these may NOT be the only talented people in the country.

Ah yes Torrey Smith - no longer with the Eagles - because he couldn’t catch the ball, IMO.....

I use to look forward to every football season. The game was going downhill for years but kaperstink was the last straw. I haven't watched a football game in over 2 years. I will never watch another NFL game again no matter what.

.…….particularly since we know NOTHING about the mans past!

We don’t even know his true birthday!

And there’s a long list of things he and Soros or some Saudi dude and their lawyers managed to hide. So, not only is it ok to disrespect him when he was in office but it is quite patriotic.

As a FORMER Redskins and NFL fan, I didn’t even know the Eagles had won the SuperBowl.

Didn’t see it fall, therefore that tree never fell.

The Eagles what..? Dunno.

#3 in reply to Trotter’s “Don’t Matter most of the guys weren’t going anyway”.

Try this on for size, Jeremiah:

“You don’t matter; most of us have given up watching football games. Better revise your job-seeking CV”.

#17. Used to be a time when “Kneelers” were $20 hookers. Or is it still the same, but the hookers are now football players?

I think Trump’s problem is that these people are basically asshole, yet they still make millions. Trump now sees it as his job to end that gravy train...and he’s doing a damn good job of it!

No. He just wants them to stand for the flag.

Philadelphia mayor calls Trump a “tyrant”>>>>>>>

I celebrate that we now have a father who leads the whole nation against the Obama black power nationalists who support the sanctuary city model of dissolution of the United States of America and its traditional patriotic values/

Thank you President Trump. It is not you who is the tyrant. The tyranny comes from those who would use a hitherto patriotic platform to transform our country into a collection of weak kneed weenies who would not want out country back. This comes straight out of Saul Alinsky’s “ Rules for Radicals,” the operations manual for the Obama hegemon. One of the results is the murder in cold blood of 28 police officers so far in 2018.

If you are a Republican patriot or Democrat patriot, the one thing you must know is that we are at war, a demographic war and a cultural war with a liberal fascist movement. This “take a knee” is much more than a simple protest by players each who earn on average about 2.2 million dollars a year, thanks to patriot Americans who watch the game.

Our country and its continuity hang in the balance. We must not devolve into a collective of liberal fascist city states.

If the pro football league has to tank to keep ourselves free, so be it.
