Wilson Combat has announced that their Recon Tactical and Super Sniper rifles are now available chambered in .224 Valkyrie. The rifles are built with Wilson Combat barrels that feature a fast 1:6.5″ twist rate which allows stabilizing some of the heaviest (90 grain) .224 projectiles currently available on the market. Lets take a look at each of these rifles.

any rifle that starts with 22- is not enough. target , tin cans , cotton tails is fine though. I’m not saying it will not kill a human, but it will bounce off most things. Maybe a good eye shot .

A 90 grain .22 bullet would be uncommonly long.

Ran some of those old 90gr JLK's in a 1:7 22-250AI for a while up in the mountains groundhoggin'. Whot a Javelin! Hard ta stabilize and the '250 would push it fast enough the bullet would come apart just out of the barrel sometimes.
But ya lost a lot of the "explosive" effect I liked inna fast .22. Ended up rebarreling for heavier VMax's IIRC. d:^)

There are a whole lot of people who arent breathing anymore due to being shot with a 5.56mm round.

$2,500.00. I can put together 2 standard AR pattern rifles together for that and have enough leftover to build a Glock 17.

One day long ago, I shot a .35 at a 1” plate at 100 yards. It made a large dimple. Lots of kinetic energy there. Then I shot an AR at the target, 55 grain ball, and it made a little volcano crater through it. It didn’t bounce off.

Yep! I’ve only got one newer caliber and that’s a 270 WSM I got for the wife, all the others are well over 50 years old. Everybody wants to be super sniper now, and the market is catering to them. 6.5’s are being treated like they’re the new magic bullet, yet we were shooting wildcat 6.5’s back in the early 70’s. We were running 22-06’s and 22-284’s with 75 to 89 gr bullets ranging from 3450 fps to 3800 fps.

Yes, a great cartridge, but f you build one in a modern action, and run it up to around 260 rem pressures ( 62k psi, 55k CUP or so) then it will be as capable as the 260, 6.5 creedmore, 6.5 LR etc etc....
As is, the 6.5 Swede is a mid range round for medium and below game ( sure, some folks killed ele with them).
I have one. 140s at 2400 kill local deer very well. And I have a 6.5 LR in a Borden action that runs 142 AMAX at 3050 and is quite capable to 1200 yards.

The other weekend I put out a 10” group with factory hornandy 140gr eld with my begara 6.5 creedmoor. No recoil. It’s about 2700 fps. 670ft/lbs of energy at 1000 still. Faster isn’t always better heh.

I've always read positive reviews on the 6.5x55mm. They're still very popular in Europe.
If I see one at the gun shows in a Mauser action in good shape, I may have to pick one up. I'm normally a 30-06 man, but having something smaller, tried and tested would be fun too.
Is ammunition still fairly easy to get?
