Fox News star Charles Krauthammer reveals he has weeks to live in heartbreaking letter

Charles Krauthammer, the beloved and brilliant Fox News Channel personality who gave up a pioneering career in psychiatry to become a Pulitzer Prize-winning political analyst, on Friday revealed the heartbreaking news that he is in the final stages of a losing battle with cancer.

The 68-year-old’s incisive takes on politics of the day have been missing from Fox News Channel’s “Special Report” for nearly a year as he battled an abdominal tumor and subsequent complications, but colleagues and viewers alike had held out hope that he would return to the evening show he helped establish as must-viewing. But in an eloquent, yet unblinking letter to co-workers, friends and Fox News Channel viewers, Krauthammer disclosed that he has just weeks to live.

“I have been uncharacteristically silent these past ten months,” the letter began. “I had thought that silence would soon be coming to an end, but I’m afraid I must tell you now that fate has decided on a different course for me.”

Also just watched his goodbye being read on Fox. So like Krauthammer to announce this himself. A truly remarkable man who you knew gave his honest opinions which were not given on a whim but thought out and delivered with honesty.

I will miss him...may God be especially close to him in these final days and that he Know the Savior.

Actually, he should feel lucky. As a high functioning quadriplegic, his life expectancy was already quite low. Remember Christopher Reeves?

It’a win that cancer knocked him down rather than complications from his condition.

Sad news, even though I lost interest in him politically, I always thought he was smart and respecting. I’m glad he got to say goodbye. (Just buried a good friend who because of a sudden brain tumor and surgery unfortunately could not speak for the last months of her life...so hard.)

Didn’t know he was sick. I pray he has peace with God and as accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior.

A classy letter, and exit. So unlike McCain.

Also can't say I always agreed with him, but I did respect his opinion and analysis in spite of that. That's something I can say of very few talking heads.

Sounds like he had more than his fair share of adversity and still made the best of his life. That's about the best we all can hope to accomplish by ourselves.

A hunk of junk for a body- A Rolls-Royce for a mind.

Happy trails, Charles. Your dancing shoes are polished and are awaiting you on the other side.

"Prayers for his final days draw him nearer to his God and savior."

My first thoughts, also. It's really the only thing in life that matters....

He was a lib but he never tried to be a liar. He would explain his positions with exacting detail and never minced his words.

I also appreciated that he didn’t let other commentators shout over him. He handle himself at a professional level.

I disagreed with him on some issues, but I respected his approach and he could give me pause of thought.

He is one of the few libs I can wish well as he never intended any of us any harm.

Sad end for a decent man.

I did not often agree with his opinions, particularly those he stated of President Trump. But he kept himself respectable, unlike the partisan hacks who pretend themselves “objective” reporters.

Stomach cancer - not a disease I would wish on my worst enemy. A very sobering reminder of the brevity of this life. I I hope he passes into the next peacefully.

He has a wife and a 32 year old son, Daniel.

Prayers for Charles and his family.

When will we rid the earth of cancer? Hundreds of billions spent over decades and... nothing!!

Any life taken to this dreadful disease is a tragedy.

That Charles accepts what life has given him and excels in so many ways is inspirational. As smart as he is, I believe his biggest attribute is his sense of humor.

You apparently forgot how K treated Sarah Palin. Some of his commentaries against her were downright mean.

Krauthammer, who graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1975 despite a first-year diving accident that left him a quadriplegic, explained that he had a malignant tumor removed from his abdomen last August. Although a series of setbacks left him in  the hospital in the ensuing months, he believed until recently that he was on the road to recovery.

“However, recent tests have revealed that the cancer has returned,” Krauthammer wrote. “There was no sign of it as recently as a month ago, which means it is aggressive and spreading rapidly. My doctors tell me their best estimate is that I have only a few weeks left to live. This is the final verdict. My fight is over.”

The thing about life is that no matter how it ends, there is always a cruel aspect to the end. Yet, in the same way he lived his life, Charles Krauthammer has invested this sad news with a dignity that rises above the cruelty of the disease that will take his life. We should all strive to invest our lives with dignity because it helps us beat the worst life has to offer. We live in unnecessarily mean, crude, vulgar times, but dignity helps us rise above.

Yes, very sad. He’s struggled a lot throughout his life with physical challenges, and I was always impressed with how much he accomplished in spite of those.

Prayers to him and his family.
