Israeli, American Jews deeply divided on Trump: poll

Israeli and American Jews are deeply divided on issues related to President Trump, according to a new poll from the American Jewish Committee (AJC).

More than three-quarters (77 percent) of Israeli Jews surveyed said they approved of U.S.-Israeli relations under Trump, while only 34 percent of American Jews said they felt the same way.

Over half — 57 percent — of American Jews said they disapproved of Trump's handling of U.S.-Israeli relations, while just 10 percent of Israeli Jews said the same.

The poll also revealed a significant split between Israeli and U.S. Jews on the U.S. embassy's move to Jerusalem.

Eight-five percent of Israeli Jews said they supported the embassy's relocation, while 46 percent of American Jews said the same.

The poll comes a month after the U.S. embassy opened in Jerusalem, sparking mass protests from Palestinians who view East Jerusalem as the capital of a future independent Palestinian state.

According to Jewish law, if a person's mother is a Jew, they are a Jew. If the father is a Jew and the mother is a non-Jew, the person is NOT a Jew. End of story. Where and when was that law written (Beginning of story, as it were)?

There are several references in the Torah which allude to G-d's prohibition of interfaith marriages. In Deuteronomy 7:1-5, it says "...(the non-Jewish male marriage partner) will cause your child to turn away from Me and they will worship the gods of others." From this, it is assumed the wife in this relationship is Jewish. There is no such statement regarding a child of a non-Jewish wife, inferring that the child is already a non-Jew, so there's nothing to be turned away from. In Ezra 10:2-3, when the Jews were returning to Israel after being exiled to Babylonia, they are told by Ezra to put away their "foreign" (non-Jewish) wives and any children born of them. The Shulchan Aruch ("The Set Table", published in 1563), is the Code of Jewish Law. It is a compilation of the decisions of rabbis throughout the ages based on the Talmud and other Jewish texts of law. Who a Jew may marry and the status of their offspring is set down in this text. It all boils down to what I said: Jewish mother-->offspring is Jewish. Non-Jewish mother-->offspring is not Jewish.

Yes, I know; any intermarriage is forbidden. The rabbis legislated in Jewish law that the children from such an intermarriage would not be Jews if the mother was not Jewish.

That position, had it been in effect at the time, would have resulted in the fourth King of the United Kingdom of Israel not being a Jew (by birth), nor the grandfather of King David.

I'm sure the fact that Israeli Jews live in Israel and American Jews live in the US has nothing to do with the results. Events in Israel have no direct impact on the lives of the overwhelming majority of American Jews. Move the Embassy, for US Jews American political positions on the issue will be important. For the very few who care at all.

You said it yourself. Ruth converted in a kosher conversion, the result of many steps. The Messyonics want Jews to convert---to non-Jews. You can't sell me their load of lies-ridden baloney, so quit trying.
