U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson introduced legislation this week that would create a national gun registry.
Known as the Crime Gun Tracing Modernization Act, the bill would require ATF to set up a searchable, computerized database of all records pertaining to the sale, importation, production or shipment of firearms. The agency would be given three years to get the system up and running.
The fact that there is a law on the books that forces agents to comb through millions of files by hand is absolutely ridiculous, said Nelson, a Florida Democrat.

NO. NONONONONONO!
“I understand that after 30 days sales of guns to individuals are expunged.”
That’s funny.

/pardon me not very ladylike but DUDE.
You WILL NOT have any say in the matter!
If the law passes both houses of Congress and POTUS signs it (which I seriously doubt that he will - should this POS legislation get to his desk), the Feds will use the ATF Form 4473 each person who purchases a weapon at a licensed gun shop has to fill out.
They are on file at gun stores, and ATF can look at them anytime it wants to! Current law does not allow ATF to keep a permanent record of them. However, gun stores have to keep them on file.
IIRC, gun stores which go out of business have to turn the forms over to ATF.
Bottom line: if you legally purchase a weapon at a licensed gun store, the ATF CAN and WILL find out about it, if and when they want to.
Example: a number of years ago, a really dumb man’s concealed handgun fell out of his jacket pocket and discharged at a downtown San Diego movie house. The cops were waiting for him when he got home - ATF chased the serial number of the handgun back to him FRom the ATF Form 4473.
Senator “Howdy Doody” Nelson is a total LIEberal noxious, venomous asshole! And, all of the members of his Democrat tribe are, as well!
All the more reason to NEVER VOTE FOR A DEMOCRAT!
I would have complied, but since they have all been lost in the St. Johns river in my near fatal boating accident, there is not a reason to
I remind you that Trump won Florida. Do you think it was by accident?
Oh, I agree.
So get rid of that stupid law. Don't make another stupid law.
Exactly. There is no pro second amendment candidate for Florida Senate. As far as I'm concerned they can both go straight to hell.
(Counting down to GOPe Kool Aid drinkers posters to chime in on how I have to support Scott blah, blah , blah.... )
They never give up and always avoid the real answers to problems. I despise the left.
Not quite sure what you are referring too, but I am guessing your question is about the FBI's NICBCS. In theory (supposedly based upon congressional law), when it went on-line ~1998, the FBI had to approve/disapprove the FFL-dealer inquiry about a transfer to a prospective buyer within 3 days or the transfer automatically defaulted in the buyer's favor. Now, there was supposed to be a time limit on how long the FBI could retain the inquiry request in its records before it was expunged. During POTUS #42 WJC's watch, AG Janet Reno was known to extend this time period to 6 months. Don't know what the current practice is. Many of us Freepers fear that DoJ/FBI/ATF have been secretly/ illegally storing these inquiry requests to the NICBCS and ATF Forms 4473 from FFL-dealers in computer records since POTUS #42 or POTUS #44's watch. The ultimate aim would be to use this info as the foundation of a national gun registry.
Actually, I have no problem whatsoever with that, so long as retard Willie assures us that all the criminals have registered first.
Otherwise, Willie, ESAD!!
Jeb would have said....This suggestion needs some serious consideration

After the election Scott will say something similar.
I understand that after 30 days sales of guns to individuals are expunged.
That is the law but as the Second Amendment Foundation pointed out there is no penalty for breaking that law. Go figure.
You won’t get that argument from me, I wanted Rubio removed from office for his amnesty betrayal.
When I bought my last firearm I asked the FFL dealer about that and he said that federal law says the sale is expunged on the federal level and at the state level after 30 days. WA is about two years behind in expunging their files.
LOL!
Hey wait a minute, I moved here in 2005 :D
Two words - hanging chads.
