I think the stops serve a couple of purposes.

1. How often is Trump out west, close to troops in Guam and Hawaii? It builds goodwill with the troops to stop by when he’s near.

2. It shows—immediately after the negotiations—that he feels safe stopping at two military bases within striking distance of North Korean missiles. It’s a direct sign to both Kim and the rest of the world that he trusts Kim and the negotiations were productive.

Good move, IMO.

• Trump's care and concern about the victims of the volcano
• Trump's concern about the first line of a NORK attack
