“I notice competent states, like Texas, aren’t desperate enough to offer such harebrained schemes.”

You redefining “competent?” Because Texas is so close to becoming the next California that it isn’t funny. All the marbles in Texas are ending up in three or four of Texas’ 300 odd counties. With the counties along the Rio Grande two counties deep already owned by the Mexicans. At least in CA, we have a bunch of real estate that’s as much as 800 miles from Mexico, and our border with Mexico is the shortest of the four states that have a border with Mexico, with Texas having the longest and least defensible. Personally, I hope somehow Texas manages to survive, but I frankly don’t see it long term.

“I would love for Florida to drop everything South of Gainesville or Maybe Orlando into a new state.”

The new State of Floruba? And I understand that Texas is going to do the same thing and the new state will be called Texaco!

Isn’t Texas the only state which can legally split itself into 4 or is it 5 states?

Yes it is. However after the civil war and Texas readmission to the Union this point is in legal doubt. I myself think it is still legal but this would be a point argued in the Supreme Court. However this is rather moot. Texas would never decide to divide itself!!!!

IOW, California will be the only state with six senators. No thanks. Thanks Libloather.

I don’t like it either.

I mean-dems have our state on lockdown.

Anything on the ballot is only there to benefit them.

They would never let anything get on a ballot that could benefit us.

We need a new Constitutional Amendment:

"Whenever a city or area comprising of cities grows to more than 2,500,000 people, it shall be considered a federal district with no Senators and full Congressional representation."

District of Houston, District of Detroit, District of NYC, etc. No Senators for them. Just reps. Before that though, repeal the 17th amendment to allow state leg to choose senators.

Maybe conservatives could sue under the VRA alleging the Democrats are attempting to disenfranchise them ... which SHOULD be a slam dunk given how they’re crowing about the results of this plan.

And subsequently redistricting in California(s) should always be predicated on proving that Democrats are accommodating Republican voters.

You know, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

Not really as Texas did not in fact legally, per her own laws, secede. The assembly that voted for secession was not lawfully constituted for that purpose and before the much else happened the federals surrendered and the State could be considered conquered.

Texas also STILL has the lawful right to leave.

If you doubt consider that only Texas has her origional Constitution.

No, losing.

Three gives the Dems two new Senators in addition to the two they have

The state must be split into only two states.

"Smells like winning to me."

Not at all. This violates Article IV, Section 3 of the U. S. Constitution. That provides:

New States may be admitted by Congress into this Union, but no new State shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State, nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or Parts of States, without the consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.

If this is read literally the referendum won't work because the CA legislature will have to consent. Then Congress will also have to consent. Fat chance for all of that happening.
