I know that. Point is, why should anyone pay attention to some guy of no consequence whatsoever save his daughter happened to marry a prince, who himself has no real political power and is limited to ceremonial events like opening supermarkets etc?

Fair points. Following Brexit, there’s been understandable speculation about how the Royal Family sees itself and the future of Britain. Brexiters and Remainers alike see the monarchy as a stabilizing force and pillar through the turmoil and transition.

Also to my understanding, the Queen has more official power on paper than she’s chosen to use...We don’t know how the heirs to the throne may operate. The monarchy could evolve — perhaps not to the point of having political “power” but being more vocal maybe? Who knows.

I like The Queen. No question she is a stabilizing force.
As for exercising political power, I recently read a couple of books about Queen Victoria(the present queen’s great great grand mother) and her husband Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Queen Victoria who became queen at the very young age of 18 and ruled for nearly 64 years, still managed to exercise and wield great political power and more or less dictated foreign policy to the ten Prime Ministers who served under her. Some of her Prime Ministers accepted her diktats without too much quibble. Others did quite a bit to thwart her wishes. But then those were different times.

Prince Harry has a close personal relationship with the Obamas, but he is first and foremost a British patriot and has bravely fought on his country’s behalf. So I would imagine he was unhappy with UK’s trajectory in recent years and of Europe/the West. Especially considering the spurts of homegrown terrorism he went overseas to fight...I also think it’s implicit that Brexit could revive and restore the Monarchy’s relevance to the nation.

Voices such as Trump’s pinpoint what a large number of people are already thinking.

Meghan Markle does not strike me as a raging-heart liberal. More of a moderate Democrat if anything. Whatever she is -from the bit I’ve seen, I find her very likable.

But in actual fact, it’s very difficult to know what’s really true with those people. I only hope it’s not true what they say about the horrible things happening to children in that place.
