As with all immigrant groups, as they become more assimilated and move up the economic ladder they vote more conservative. When you marry, have kids, own property you become more conservative.

Irish-Americans voted 80-90% for Democrats right up to Kennedy in 1960. Their vote now splits about 50-50.

We just flipped, MI, PA & WI. Without the Libertarian in the race we would have flipped ME & MN too.

I predicted that Trump would get 286 EVs before the election just going on the percentage of Whites in each state. I missed PA and it’s 20 EVs. I knew he would get the 1 EV out of ME.

Seems like foreign immigration into Texas outpaces that from CA.

I think those foreigners, and whatever their beliefs and values are might be of more concern since no doubt the majority of them are coming from 3rd world countries who are illiterate in the language of their home country, because most likely those migrating from CA to TX are small business owners and moderate to conservative folks who are fed up with CA politics.

The word “Hispanic” is a very broad category.

Hispanics include Basques from the Pyrenees, blacks from Equatorial Guinea and Argentines of Welsh ancestry.

Most Latinos I know here are pretty white in their actions.

From what I have gathered, Texan Hispanic immigrants tend to be more conservative than their California counterparts.

Is it because they bend in with the overall political climate or just drawn to the "Texan machismo", I dunno.

But if more immigrants were like my brother's wife family, I and most Freepers wouldn't have a problem with immigration in general. They are a hard working, family. Think rednecks with a permanent tan. Good decent people.

I think it depends upon the definition of “Hispanic”. If you are mixed, Hispanic and anglo, the census considers you Hispanic. Same is true for Asian/White and Black/ White mixed. You are considered a part of the minority group.

In the Jim Crow south they called it the "one drop" rule. If you have even one drop of non-white blood, you aint white. That's long gone everywhere but the US Census Bureau apparantly.

first of all, "white" is a color, not an ethnicity nor a nationality nor a religion nor a culture...

latinos are often white colored...some can be dark/black...

there have been white latinos in texas for centuries.....most of them speak English and speak it well and live the typical American life...

My little Schnauzer I bought from our Mexican neighbors at our last place. I don’t see most of them causing the problems and crime of certain other ethnic groups.

And that is the crux of the issue.

Since the vast majority of immigration these days is from south of the border...do those migrants share the same values as we do? Some would say yes. But if that were the case, why then aren't their home countries much...much more like the United States?

The fact that they aren't show's that the current set of migrants do not have a majority of the same values.

Furthermore, language and culture need to be taken into account. Is it better, or worse, for the continuity of a country to have more people speaking & reading in different languages, or is it better if they speak and read a common language?
Part of the reason why this country is fracturing more and more by the day is due to the increasing differences between not only the native citizens, but with those millions who migrate here annually both legally and illegally.

What holds a country together best is a common language, a common culture, a common history and of course defined and secured borders.
