As the issue has unfolded, the Democrats have NOT made any political 'gains' over this issue.

Trump made a mistake in killing the immigration reform bill. The Reps should have passed it in the House, and have all Rep Senators voting for it in the Senate. Let the dems kill it by not giving the nine votes needed to get to 60, and let them explain why.
Dems don’t want a solution - they want a problem.
