I lived in the City of Detroit during the buildup to the July, 1967 riots as a Wayne State University student and employee.
I felt and experienced what some call the “vibes” of intense,intolereant hatred between blacks and whites. I don’t have to be a psychic to tell you it was palpable then wherever you went around people. Then it was an exploding, burning building mob riot. Took days for the National Guard to face down the out of control blacks then.
FReepers, do you feel some of that yet as we move toward Civil War II? Or just a sullen intensity beneath the surface as Trump people subserviently accept a lower status (getting jeered at, talked against, kicked out of a restaurant like Sanders,a house surrounded like Nielsen and knowing we have no right of free speech) as we say “nothing can be done, maybe Sessions will do something.” Do you feel the tension so far?
I feel the second thing-sullenness, if that’s the correct characterization, as we descend into second-class status-but I’m not pessimistic on the whole because my Christian beliefs inform my politics, as they do every aspect of my life. I’m pessimistic short-term, ie, through to the end of history-but not on the eternal scale.
I am starting to see more and more speak up and stand up that never would have in a million years until now. People who have shut up when the radicalized dims start spewing and raging. Now a rage that has been building on the conservative side is beginning to erupt against the dims.
I live in the sticks, maybe it is starting here but I have to tell you just over this immigration issue people who have suffered in silence here on the border or were able to be silenced by calling them racists are standing up to the dims. No longer willing to be silenced, verbally fighting intensely online and in person. No lefty remark is left alone, instead polite correction, if that doesn’t work it becomes a little heated.
I am seeing the same thing on social media. I am on social media to keep up with friends and family and generally keep political things off my page. Nearly all of my friends are the same. Yet with this outburst over illegal immigration, it is like a dam has burst and a flood of conservatives standing up to the loony left. The left is shocked to say the least, I have to admit I am shocked by this. I am talking about people I have known all my life and they have never been like this.
I don’t know if this is happening all over the country yet, I am at ground zero on the border but still most people here have been pretty quiet all along until now. I went do a BBQ today- it was a fundraiser, public paid- not private BBQ. I was amazed people are openly talking about the crazies and not just the border issues but all issues.
People here in my area and on my social media are fed up and not going to take it any more. I am curious what others are seeing and hearing out there.
