These Leftists Want Democrats To Pack The Supreme Court Once Trump Is Gone
Daily Caller ^ | 06/28/2018 | Peter Hasson

Liberal justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer are 85 and 79-years-old, respectively, so it’s not unforeseeable that Trump could get to fill two more seats before he leaves the White House, potentially guaranteeing a conservative majority on the court for decades to come.

Now some liberals argue Democrats should simply expand the number of court seats — and then immediately fill the new ones with left-wing jurists — as soon as they take back control of Congress and the White House.

The Constitution doesn’t require a set number of seats on the court and leaves that power to Congress, which hasn’t altered the size of the Supreme Court since last setting it at nine in 1869.

With a packed court the Dems will never lose power again. That’s the end game. I’ve been accused of being negative here on FR but I will say it again. The next time the Dems have all three branches and maybe just the Pres and Senate they will pack the court and then rule by decree. They will be ruthless and relentless. The learned their lesson with Trump.

FDR was the one who tried to pack the court. The left has been using the court to attempt to undermine this nation and the constitution since the early 20th century

Right, see post #1. A fellow Democrat said “This is more power than a good man should want or a bad man should have.”

And FDR tried to do it anyway. Little prick is the start of most of the crap we deal with today.

In 1866 Congress passed a law providing that no vacancies on the Supreme Court would be filled until the total number had dropped to 7--this was done to prevent Andrew Johnson from nominating anyone to fill vacancies. Two Southern Unionists on the Court died while he was President but he was not able to name any justices. Roger Taney died in 1864 and Lincoln picked a new chief justice, but the next new justice was appointed in 1870, chosen by Grant.

I'm sure Schumer would love to pull something similar to prevent Trump from making any more nominations, but to pass a law over Trump's veto he would need 2/3 in each house.

To increase the size of the scotus would require a dem potus, dem majorities in both houses of congress, and the nuclear option in the senate (unless dems already had 60 votes there).

Just realistic!

I'm not all that hopeful myself.

Or they get 60 senate seats. That doesn’t happen often.

Trump could threaten to pack the Court with Justices that would rule (subsequent) court packing to be unconstitutional.

...which is why communism not only must be defeated, but extinguished. For some reason, I remember as a young child, that the Communist Party was outlawed, but my memory may not serve me correctly in this instance. Nevertheless, it should be outlawed, along with Islam and socialism.

They are always quick to respond to ideas like this with the old “First they came for the....”. But history shows us that this is a false argument. Once the commies get in power, they allow NO freedom. We oppose communism because we DO want liberty, within the realm of Liberty. Communism does not fall within the realm of Liberty.

>>If the liberals go ahead and pack the court, the backlash could lead to a sweeping reform of the whole federal judiciary when conservatives take power afterward
********************************************************
Something tells me at this point if they ever regain total control, they will make sure there are no conservatives left this time. That is why when Commies take over countries, they kill MILLIONS of people.
