Self magazine features plus-size model Tess Holliday on first digital cover
Fox News ^

Self Magazine debuted its first digital cover this week, which showed plus-sized model Tess Holliday and told readers that her “health is none of your business.”

The health and wellness magazine posted the cover to its Instagram account and included a portion of Editor-in-Chief Carolyn Kylstra’s editor’s letter, which explains why the publication decided to give Holliday “a platform.”

“Holliday identifies as a fat woman; we chose to give her a platform because she has insightful things to say about thriving in a world that devalues bodies of size,” the letter said. “We also chose to feature her because size representation is necessary, especially for a national health media brand that can help guide the conversation about what it means to be healthy and how to make health accessible.”

It went on to add that a person’s level of health can’t be determined "just by looking at them."

“And moreover, you should know that concern trolling — using a person’s perceived health to justify making them feel bad about themselves — isn’t just counterproductive, it’s abusive,” it said.

Some commenters on the post applauded the magazine’s decision, with one user writing, “Thanks for showing ALL kinds of beautiful women!” and another saying they “adore this!”

"Tess Holliday's Health is None of Your Business"

Under socialized health care, like 0bamaCare, it is. It's the taxpayer's business and Congress can and will control it.

The left wants the government to stay out of their bodies but socialized health care guarantees that it will intrude into the tiniest details of our lives ultimately. That will include what you eat and how much. Your BMI will be legislated.

That is actually sad. I’m sure she’s a wonderful girl and all, but she is MORBIDLY obese and that is not the same as the adorable young size 14s they sometimes use as plus size models. I enjoy seeing celebrities look realistic with hips and butts and curves these days. Like Drew Barrymore or Taylor Swift. Love it. So happy. My daughter will never be able to achieve the heroic chic look that was prevalent in the 80s and 90s like we had to deal with. Women should look like women, curvy and rounded (if they are). But while a bit overweight is understandable, morbidly obese is not something anyone wishes to attain. It’s not a body to be “modeling.” It’s time for weight loss surgery and proper nutrition. No need to body shame or obsess on how she got 100 lbs overweight, just get the surgery and learn how to eat and move, and get healthy.

Typo which I couldn’t read since the picture blew up the self-edit box:

Meant to write “heroin chic.”

Don’t care who they put on the cover, but why is it necessary to put a nude chick on it. Where are the feminists? Apparently at the All-You-Can-Eat buffet.

It should be a beach shoot. She would really take to the water.

Yeah, but there's the risk that she would be harpooned.

If she walked in to the Pacific Ocean the Mean Sea Level would rise by half an inch.

When I met my wife she was 5’2” and 100lbs. A bit too skinny but I fell in love with her. After our second child she kept a couple of those pregnancy pounds and was much more shapely and comfortable to live and play with.

Men are wired to be attracted to healthy, physically fit women. In other words, women who could bear their children, survive childbirth, and successfully raise the kid. Beauty is what we call a collection of indicators of health.

Emaciated women are infertile, and thus not beautiful to normal men. Obese women are also infertile, and thus not beautiful to normal men.

"Tess HoIlliday's Health Is None Of Your Business"

I agree completely. That's why our taxes should not be paying the health insurance of other people. Their Health s none of our business.

It would be easier to give her a break without all the tramp stamps.

That doesn’t mean I think she should be in the cover of anything but perhaps a diet magazine as a “before” pic.
