Exactly. Especially at an office that deals with legal documents, etc.
I have used a cross-cut at home for several years. Cost me about $25. When my basket gets about half-filled, I shake it up and dump about 1/2 into the trash. Repeat the next time it gets about 1/2 full. I have been thinking about getting a micro-cut; they are in the $100-130 range.
At a high level, there are three types of shredders:
Strip-Cut: Cuts the paper into strips. Pretty much useless. ...
Cross-Cut: Chops up the paper into little bits. These typically have a cutter section for credit cards, too.
Micro-Cut: Turns the paper into confetti. You're not putting that document back together. These typically have a credit card and CD/DVD cutter section and they will cut through staples or paperclips.
