A dive team brought a fifth boy out of a cave in Thailand Monday and were working at lightning speed to recover his coach and seven soccer teammates still trapped underground a day after the first four boys were successfully evacuated in an international rescue mission that has gripped the attention of the world.

The latest rescue was completed just after 5 p.m. local time, 6 p.m. Eastern time, a source close to the rescue operation said, about six hours after divers entered the jungle cave to resume the operation to save the remaining members of the soccer team that has now been in the cavern for 17 days.

This is an outstanding operation in every way......as a former Seal said Like traveling to the moon as far as the terrain goes, underwater. Unknown to all the divers.

The coach had a great deal to do with the stamina of these boys. Having read several articles now about the 25 year old he’s a true hero in this story. Otherwise we’d be reading about 13 bodies being found as none of the kids knew how to swim. He led them to high ground as it flash flooded the cave....then sustained them and kept them calm while they waited.

Stunning work for all the teams who are making this operation successful.

Still I have concerns about this heavy rain...there are 19 actual divers in this rescue group plus the four kids, coach, medic and 3 navy seals to be brought out....Huge operation with the possibility of more flooding.

It’s a four hour journey out from the time they leave til the kids are out. That’s a lot of people to clear from the cave in this weather.

All these guys are hero's, but also aware this is and was a race against time and water from the get go....and they felt that pressure.

The coach trapped in the cave with the boys is still only 25. He’s showed a level of maturity beyond his age to remain calm, ration food and to encourage meditation all of this has kept the boys morale up. He is a true inspiration.

Photo correction....

Two images of divers carrying a person on a stretcher underwater are falsely claimed to be images of the thamluangcave rescue operation. The images are from a cave rescue exercise uploaded in 2010..

Some Thai person was on twitter talking about the differences between their culture and Westerners. No blame (like not blaming the coach), not the lawsuits, etc. I forget now exactly why - but I think their religion plays a part? BUT - I know there are lots of folks in the USA that would have similar views as them.

Their was some gal that runs a clothes-washing company. She heard someone saying they hadn’t had a change in clothes in four days. Now she and her workers go down in the evening, gather all the dirty clothes and wash them at night, mending, folding, etc. and returning them in the morning.

“All of us here working all night are just happy we can do something. We can’t swim into the cave to help those boys, but we can wash clothes.” (It sounded like their normal hours were during the day, and this is all on their own time, friends helping, etc.)

All sorts of other stories like that.

"And it is international news because as a species we tend to respond when children are in peril. It is a biological imperative to care."

I think most of us understand the importance of the survival of our young..

Mae Bua Chaicheun is a rice farmer. Her rice paddies were destroyed by the 130million liters of water pumped from the cave in the rescue mission. Her response:”Children are more important than rice. We can regrow rice but we can’t regrow the children.”

Thank God!

Thank caww for the incredible photos, updates, and clarifications. And thank all Freepers that showed concern and appreciation for the international rescue team.

I believe the world truly needed this to happen to show how people everywhere can focus on a just cause to overcome the evil that pervades throughout.

Thank you and caww for posting of people in the background of this effort without whom the international team would have been weakened.

Mae is also a hero working tirelessly to help provide and prepare food for the effort.
