I remember Jackie Kennedy saying "Wilkes Barr" instead of "Wilkes Barry" when she mentioned people who donated furniture to the White House, during her White House Tour. I was in high school at the time, and a Jackie fan then. I was surprised years later to hear the true pronunciation of the city's name.
