Next step will be to appoint an Independent counsel with prosecutorial powers to investigate wrong doing (in otherwords, the staff of the IG, but with subpoena powers over all, both employees, ex-employees non-employees, and all other powers of a prosecutor. The two people that come to mind are Michael Horowitz (already has the staff and investigation) or Michael Mukasey, former AG. Sessions has not recused himself from this function so he has the power to appoint. Trump feels the need to have some distance between himself and releasing the redacted emails. After watching most of the senators and congressmen (Republican) suggesting the need for this, it might be on the front burner. At any rate, it looks like the powers to be are getting close to actually doing something.
