Batters need to stop swinging for the fences during every at-bat.

Up until a few years ago, batters hit more defensively with two strikes. Not so today. Today's game is so boring compared to what we were raised on. My dad took me to Giants games at Candlestick several times a year during the 60s. During high school, my allegiance switched to the A's, because I lived in the East Bay.

A game pitched by Catfish Hunter routinely lasted under two hours.

The greatest pitching performance I ever saw on TV was a Greg Maddux masterpiece against the Mets back in the late 1990s (I think). He threw 78 pitches in a complete-game two-hitter that lasted only 1:48 (if I remember correctly).

It was a night game in Atlanta, but it was still light out when he walked off the mound after retiring the last batter in the top of the ninth inning!

I found a link to what may be the most dominant pitching performance of the last 25 years:

Braves vs. Cubs -- July 22, 1997

Greg Maddux pitched a complete game for the Braves. The game lasted 2:07 in total.

He threw 76 pitches. 63 of them were strikes.

He only went to a two-ball count TWICE in the entire game.

It has always been boring.

“My dad took me to Giants games at Candlestick several times a year during the 60s. During high school, my allegiance switched to the A’s, because I lived in the East Bay.”

And because the A’s were way better.
