"God Be With You Till We Meet Again" - Patti Page

This was one of the hymns that I chose for my mother's memorial service.

I've been to the site where this hymn was first performed in 1883: the First Congregational Church of Washington, DC, located at 10th St. and G St. NW, near Metro Center. Unfortunately, the beautiful old sanctuary has been replaced by an ugly modern structure.

That is a beautiful, touching, and evocative hymn. That must have been especially rewarding for you to visit that church where it was first performed, with those special memories you hold relating to that hymn.

It is a real shame when misguided people come along and "improve" and "enhance" a sanctuary like that. It reminds me of that woman a while ago who bumbled her way in to "repair" and "restore" (ruin) that old painting of Christ.

(Here are the original, the "before her", and the "after her" images, after she got her unskilled hands on it.   Pitiful.)
