One should not speak ill of the dead so let’s not comment at all on this absurdity.

“One should not speak ill of the dead”

Why not? Hate to resort to the Hitler thing because that’s just too easy, but ... you know.

"One should not speak ill of the dead"

Why not? Does their ass-holery, the wreckage they no longer have to explain, or perhaps even be ashamed of, evaporate with their last breath?

I’ve never heard a credible reason why one should not speak ill of the dead, but per your instruction “mum’s the word”!

Palin is taking the high ground on this matter.

Once the mourning period is over and the adulation from George W and Barry Obama etc. etc. is over I for one intend to discuss McCain’s legacy to dispel the Princess Diana like adulation from the media.

“...One should not speak ill of the dead...”

Out of curiosity... Why not?

I hear that a lot, and it’s usually in reference to someone who deserves to be “spoken ill” of.

Like all men, he did some things that were good in his life, and he did some other things that just plain sucked throughout his life.

Unfortunately, a lot of the things that he did negatively impacted a large portion of people in this Country, and he did those things intentionally, out of spite, and with much malice. One could forgive a person making a mistake.

So, respectfully, this guy - much like his buddy Ted Kennedy - gets what he deserves.

“Speaking ill” about him is being charitable, for all the damage he caused.

I have never believed in that axiom. If I dislike, have no respect, or even hate for an individual while alive, why does he/she/it deserve different just because they died?

We ALL die. It is no great accomplishment. IMO, people deserve praise or condemnation in death according to their actions in life. If an a-hole during life, I reserve the right to say so when the a-hole is the ground. McCain turned out to be an a-hole by his own free will. Screw him.
