Why you see so many Beto O’Rourke yard signs, and so few for Ted Cruz
Houston Chronicle ^ | August 31, 2018 | Julian Gill

The reason for the flood of "Beto" yard signs supporting U.S. senatorial candidate Beto O'Rourke may go beyond the El Paso Democrat's popularity among his base.

O'Rourke's signs litter yards across the state, while signs for his opponent Senator Ted Cruz appear much harder to come by.

Cruz's campaign manager, Jeff Roe, told the Texas Tribune this week that he has an overall aversion to campaign yard signs because they're ineffective. He said he prefers to spend money on other advertisements, such as direct mail, door knocking, phone banks and television ads.

"It would be an easier campaign to win if we just used yard signs, and whoever wins is who puts up the most yard signs," Jeff Roe told The Tribune.

That’s interesting. Hopefully that means O’Rourke’s support is simply louder (but smaller).

Not really. It’s Labor Day weekend. The electorate is just starting to pay attention

Roe didn’t do so good against Trump. Let’s hope he does better against the faux Latino

You need to get over your angst with Cruz , because Trump has . The Prez will be here in October ( I think ) at Texas Moter Speedway, for a rally for Ted . It’s the largest venue in Texas .

My wife says “Beto” is a bizarre Spanish name that is the last name left to name your kid after all other better names are not used.

It’s a sort of “John Doe” or “Fred” of Spanish.

Jeff Roe must be a total moron.

In my town, reliably red, Beto signs are about 7-8 to each Cruz sign. People who were Republican voters have Beto signs in their yards.

The signs show consensus. It is ok to vote for the young guy.
As for print, radio, television, or direct mailers for Cruz..nada, zip, nothing.

I hadn’t heard about the venue being confirmed.

Is it confirmed to be at Texas Motor Speedway? Do you happen to have a link?

Thanks!

The lack of yard signs can signal complacency, or the idea you think you’ve already won so there’s no reason to have them.

I think his manager may be wrong on this one.

You have to look like you’re in the game.

Seeing the opposition signs 100 to 20, is probably not a good idea.

I’m not sure I’d say they don’t help at all.

Folks like think others think like them. Seeing a lot of signs may actually cause a person to think.

That’s a concern if Republican voters are supporting O’Rourke.

No, it is a nick name for Roberto. Lots of hispanic Roberto’s are called Beto.

Kind of like Bob.

His REAL name is Robert O’Rourke.

Kinda funny, in this Senate race, that the Irish guy goes by Beto and the hispanic guy goes by Ted.

" can’t see ever putting up a yard sign for a conservative candidate again with so many leftard crazies on the loose."

To put on a Trump hat or shirt or bumper sticker would just get me in a fight. To put on a yard sign would be asking for your home to get hit. I made that mistake years ago when I put a sign for a person running for sheriff on my daughters window that was facing the street. Fortunately it was only eggs that peppered her window.

Isn’t it a bit odd that all of the yard signs seemed to suddenly pop up?

*************

Nope. Campaigns schedule certain things to happen at specific times.
Specific advertising such as tv, radio, newspaper, yard signs, bill boards,...
