I remember going to church the Sunday after 9/11. The priest that gave mass that day said "We should not hate these people (the jihadists), we should love them".

I partially agree. Carrying hate in our hearts is not healthy. We should kill terrorists and those who celebrate terrorism, all of them, but not let hatred or killing dominate our thinking. We need more dead terrorists, but that should be out of love for the innocent, not hatred for the guilty.

When Jesus told his followers: "Let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one" . . . And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough, that carries two messages. 1. It is not merely okay but actually mandatory to take up arms in self defense. 2. We should not allow weaponry and the corresponding use of force to become the center of our lives.

9/11/2001 found me attending a combined breakfast meeting and seminar with several offices of our real estate company. The venue overlooks the marina of a Jersey Shore riverfront. It was a stunningly beautiful day, and I regretted not skipping the gathering to sneak away for some fishing.

Several beepers went off, but that was not uncommon so it drew little attention as those “beeped” slipped out to make calls. A few of them came back and spoke with those nearby, and several left. More cell phones and beepers went off, and then a venue staff member came out and talked with the speaker, who then announced that a plane had hit the WTC. He adjourned the meeting.

As we were leaving we saw several of the staff members gathered around a small portable black & white TV in a coatroom. That was my first visual of the horror, a replay of the second plane hitting its target.

Same with me. I was on the computer at our flat in Gothenburg Sweden when the first plane hit. CNN International was on TV in the next room.

The sounds of the voices changed after a while. I was busy and the volume was low so I didn’t go in for some time. I was transfixed.

My wife’s company gathered all the Americans together in a conference room until enough security people could be obtained to escort them all home.

I couldn’t keep watching the TV after a few hours and decided to walk a couple blocks to The Avenue - the Main Street of town.

I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. It was like a street party - Muslims of all stripes were out slapping each other on their backs, waving their national flags, cheering, shouting, honking their horns as they drove back and forth.

In groups of 10s and 20s they would block traffic and do chants that ended in cheers and flag waving.

Absolutely awful.

For days afterword, local muzzie businesses like food kiosks and convenience stores would have large groups hanging out in animated conversations. I haven’t gone into a muzzie owned business since.

At the mall for days and weeks after, they would purposefully step in front of shoppers and stop. And then make smart mouth comments. Just to antagonize people.

Was in Paris. Saw the ragheads celebrating in the streets. Will never forget.

I heard several times that they were celebrating in the streets and on rooftops in Jersey City, but never saw any proof of it, and of course the left denies it. Are there any FReepers with direct personal knowledge of such celebrations?

I lived 30 miles west of Manhattan and the smell lasted for about two weeks even out there. You could see the smoke from the rubble pile from the hill above my house.

When the first plane hit I had a feeling we were under attack. Having worked at Ellis Island a few years before, I knew nobody could have “accidentally” crashed a plane into World Trade on a clear day.

I saw a news broadcast where a woman ran back and forth behind the reporter waving her arms in the air celebrating. That has to exist somewhere. No idea what station it was.

I remember them finally towing cars out of the Bridgewater commuter lot on the Raritan Valley line. If I remember correctly they had been sitting there for over a month. It was very sad.

My wife and I were on vacation in London when we heard about 9-11. We walked to Grosvenor where the US Embassy was to get more information but we weren’t allowed admittance. The square was full of a lot of people who were quietly standing, mostly Brits. We talked to several and they said they were sad America was attacked. One older Lady said she felt the attack was as bad as the WWII London Blitz. I thanked her for her sympathy but said the Blitz lasted years and our attack was less as it only came on one day. I guess now it’s just as bad as the war on terror is up to 17 years.

In AZ.

I was asleep in bed when my phone kept ringing early, like around 6:30 AM MT. I rolled over and ignored the calls. finally got up and saw my voice mail recorder blinking. I had 3 calls. First was my mother, then two from my son in college in IL.

Frantic voices on the voicemails. I quickly turned on the news and the first shot I saw was a distance shot of NYC. The WTC towers were already down and all I saw was the entire island of Manhattan covered in smoke. It looked like the entire island was on fire or had been entirely destroyed.

Called mom and son back, discussed, called my sister at work, she was in tears, my younger brother was stranded at an airport in SC having just landed on his National Guard plane coming back from the UAE. My older brother and his GF were stranded in Houston having almost boarded a flight.

I lived under the flight landing paths for the two main run ways for Sky Harbor International airport in Phoenix. Planes were probably 1500-2000 feet above me at that point on their way to land and went directly over my place. 70-80 planes on an average day.

For four days... complete silence from above.

Freeper, Barbara K. Olsen.

Barbara Kay Olson was an American lawyer and conservative television commentator who worked for CNN, Fox News Channel, and several other outlets. She was a passenger on American Airlines Flight 77 en route to a taping of Bill Maher's television show Politically Incorrect when it was flown into the Pentagon in the September 11 attacks.

President Bush told America to go shopping. Most people felt they were no part of the War on Terror. I think it was a huge mistake but wonder why he said that? I know he said it as a message that we should carry on so the terrorists would not win but the effect was to disconnect Americans from the war.

If you let them substantially change your day-to-day life, they've won. And the disconnect was only among those who don't fully connect with America anyway- liberals.

What happened is that GWB had Clinton holdovers.

I was in my office on the phone to one of our clients who needed a part PDQ. I told him that I would have it shipped counter to counter to Calgary and he should have it some time that evening. I saw a headline that a plane had hit the trade center but did not pay much attention because I figured it was someone pulling a stupid stunt in a light plane. Someone had tried to base jump from the statue of liberty a couple of days before.

I got the part pulled and was getting ready to take it to the airport when someone told me a second plane had hit and the TV was on in the conference room. I went to see what was going on.

Two things stand out to me on that day.

The first was that I had flown back in from Japan a couple of days before. I always wrap my suitcases with duct tape and carry a small pair of scissors in my carry on. In Japan they had taken my scissors away from me for the flight. When I got to LAX they gave them back and I walked through security with them and nobody blinked.

The second thing was calling my customer back and telling him his part was not going to be arriving as planned.

He told me he figured and not to worry, it would get there when it got there. He added that "somehow it does not seem so important any more."

That morning I was on my way to work for the Mayor of Jersey City, NJ — who was running for governor. The office was a couple of towns from the Hudson River and was up on a high cliff. I was on the staff, and unlocked the door every morning. The day was beautiful as I looked at the sky, and a plane was passing. (not one of the 911 flights) and I remember thinking what a day to fly.

When the news came, the TV was on as we watched what was happening. The campaign manager had been in the subway below one of the towers the night before. The subway was destroyed when the tower fell. He couldn’t keep his eyes off the TV.

A volunteer heard that his Father-in-law, who worked in one of the towers, had called his family to tell them he was fine. Then that tower fell.

So many stories. My town is about 12 miles from NYC, and you could see that smoke for such a long time.

The wallpaper for this computer is a pic of the twin lights where the towers were. Always a reminder.

We’d gone to Las Vegas for a shut down of the 2 Way Radio company that hubby was head trouble shooter to do inventory, we’d driven out took 3 days. On 9/11 we were on our way home, stopped for breakfast, when his boss called, we were stunned, and kept the radio on and watched TV coverage until we couldn’t stay awake. It was weird no LEO on the interstate, what was a 3 day trip out was a 2 day trip back. We were glued to radio and TV as much as we could be.

Flag is up this morning at Half Mast. I HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E90WXmefmbw&feature=watch_response

I don’t know when I ever prayed so hard for so long. Just listening to the tv my eyes shut just praying in response to everything being reported.

It’s not like I consciously said “oh I must pray harder and longer than I ever have now.” I just did it.

Worked in a building in downtown Fort Worth which was evacuated because of the Federal Building next door. I remember walking to my car and thinking 'I don't even have a gun on me'.....which might seem silly to some but I felt very vulnerable at the time....been armed everyday since.

Went home and watched TV till the wee hours of the morning. Still seems like yesterday...

About a couple of years later in 2003, I went to see a 3-D documentary on the Titanic (the James Cameron expedition). They were at the wreck site on 9-11-01 when notified by people back in the United States about the tragedy (they showed footage of the crew being told) and I recall reading about how it took the Titanic longer to sink than it did for the Twin Towers to collapse.

*****

My 9/11:

I was home, recovering from a work injury. I had got in the habit of doing internet while watching Fox and Friends, though I hadn’t found FR yet.

I was watching when E.D. Hill said that there was news of a small plane hitting the WTC, and the reportage of this “accident” continued until the second plane went in. I knew, then, and I think so did everyone else. I called my mother, who lives elsewhere in the state, after the second plane to get her to turn on the TV, and we called back and forth a couple of times during the morning.

My sister, who lived in Finland at the time, was visiting our mother; they had just been to visit me, and my sister had brought one of her Finnish friends to try to match up with me (it didn’t take, and she and I are happily wed to others today), and they were back at Mom’s, getting ready to fly back to Finland on the 12th (which obviously didn’t happen...they got out 3 or 4 days later).

This friend was a structural engineer by trade. During either the first or second call, before it happened, she said “those buildings will fall; they cannot stand.” We asked “how will they fall?” Fearing for those caught under them falling like trees. “Probably straight down,” she said. So when it happened we were not terribly surprised, and I was immunized against all of the “deliberate demolition” conspiracy theories before they appeared
