San Jose Mercury ^ | September 14, 2018 | Ethan Baron

Kriti Agrawal was chasing the American Dream. She and her husband came to California from India three years ago with their young son. They landed good jobs in the Bay Area, she as a senior manager for a pharmaceutical company, he as a product manager in a financial-technology startup.

I see no reason for spouses/families getting visas.

The H1-B program is an immoral sham based on the lie that there are not enough qualified American workers for those “specialized” jobs. BS!

In fact, every job given to an H1-B worker takes a job away from a qualified American - including one of the tens of thousands of STEM graduates who cannot find work in their fields. Every single H1-B (and their spouses!) takes one American job.

The H1-B program is nothing more than corporate welfare deemed by the government for the benefit of (primarily) Silicone Valley. The problem is that the cost of this welfare is not spread over the whole tax base. It is burden borne heavily by just the few.

Re: Who can argue with that?

That is funny.

However, I think the author meant to write “because the majority of H-1Bs are from India.”

The H-4s are the spouses of H-1Bs.

Close friend of mine was in telecoe in an IT department. His boss, an Indian (dot) not (feather) who micro managed and had a herrum of Indian (dot) h1b visa employees working at his beckoning call as if he was in India. He had an open room environment with a see of tables but his area was just slight higher to make a statement. He brought his contemptous cast society bullshit here.

I love it when in hear about H1B getting the shaft, it’s about time. My HOA is full of Indian and Naple and I am sure they are all here under H1B. Better get your citizenship soon or go back home to Salam Bombay

Re: “H-1B is not the American dream. It's a temporary work permit for foreigners.”

You left out important information.

H-1Bs are typically renewable for six years.

Then, if your employer agrees to sponsor you for a Green Card, you can remain in the USA indefinitely until your Green Card is issued, or until you have exhausted all the hearings and appeals that are available if your Green Card is denied.

At least half of H-1Bs apply for Green Cards, which means an H-1B visa can easily stretch out to 8 or 9 years.

Re: “H-1B is not the American dream. It's a temporary work permit for foreigners.”

Part II

I forgot to mention that many H-1Bs start out with OPT Student Work Visas, which renew for 36 months.

Almost all the OPTs and H-1Bs have completely “average” skills.

They crush the wage scale for completely “average” American STEM graduates, and for “average” American scientists and engineers over age 40.

Why? Clearly this is part of the prez MAGA plan. If he approves, they are just being dramatic.. and he has approved to put The children of citizens behind H1Bs.. even this year.. how many? Lost track already.

Re: “Google is run by a Leftist Indian/East Asian”

So is Microsoft - Satya Nadella.

Nadella started his USA career as an H-1B, so he will never voluntarily cut back on H-1B contract laborers.

Wonder how many companies in India are hiring American managers? Oh, that's right: NONE.

GO HOME!

> You mean all the firms that are banning, shadow banning, suspending, deplatforming, and blocking conservatives?

How do you think they find people willing to create code to scavenge and aggregate data, monitor, influence, and digitally punish people?

Americans, even leftist Americans, were raised with the ideals of individualism and freedom (c.f. Seth Rich, Richard Damore, and the google guy who made news quitting this week!) and eventually exceed their tolerance level.

The near-universal Indian ... no, really all Asia mindset is fatalistic and deferent to authority. If the man in charge tells you to write code to violate people’s lives, you write it. Even getting people from that background to try and adopt a questioning or challenging mindset is nearly impossible.

I’ve known some Indian guys who thought they would come here, make a lot of money, then go “home” and live like kings, even know one guy who did it. He didn’t last a year at “home”. He’s back here now.

Yep. See “labor arbitrage.” Icorporatespeak for “crush wages; destroy economic mobility” aka neo-feudalism.

We have entire subdivisions of these Indians in Metro Atlanta. Literally thousands of them. All tech jobs Georgians just won’t do.

I see no reason for spouses/families getting visas.

The only kind of family visa we should have is for someone with a green card, who can sponsor their spouse and direct minor kids. That's it.
