The Civil War was the "Robber Barons" of New York, and the corrupt influence peddlers of Washington DC, trying to keep the South paying 75-85% of all taxes, and to keep European trade flowing almost exclusively to the port of New York.
But most people don't know that. All they know is the propaganda that people have been taught ever since.
There was 200 million dollars per year on the line which would have left the New York City/Washington DC economy, and moved to Southern port cities.
*That* is what the war was about.
I will point out that this corrupt influence scheme between Washington DC and New York is still going on today, but nowadays we call it the "establishment" and the "deep state".
