It's a dead heat between Menendez and Hugin in high stakes N.J. Senate race

New Jersey's tense U.S. Senate race between Democratic incumbent Robert Menendez and Republican challenger Bob Hugin is a dead heat with only five weeks until Election Day, according to a new poll.

Menendez leads Hugin by a mere two percentage points, 45 percent to 43 percent, in the Stockton University poll released Monday morning -- which is within the poll's margin of error...

No Republican has been elected to the U.S. Senate in New Jersey since 1972. Registered Democrats outnumber registered Republicans by a nearly 2-to-1 margin in the state.

But Menendez, who is vying for a third full term, has been hurt by federal corruption charges he beat earlier this year. Though Menendez was acquitted thanks to a hung jury and the federal government dropped all charges, he was also "severely admonished" by a Senate ethics panel...

Monday's poll also found Menendez is viewed favorably by 30 percent of likely voters and unfavorably by 54 percent...

Being NJ.com, they decline to mention Menendez's underage prostitutes because Bob would rather they didn't.

Oh, and a hung jury is not an acquittal, but they're doing their best to drag his corrupt ass over the finish line.

Wow, maybe people are starting to realize what a scum villain Menendez is.

If it can be that close in NJ, it’s setting up to be a really fun early November.

That's the best the spineless RINOs will be able to do to ChiFi Feinstein. Well, better than nothing.

Almost time for the Torricelli Switch.

Hello, Senator Chelsea Clinton!

My wife and I are doing our part. But I’m not too hopeful.

Dem or Rep, how can we seriously re-elect someone that was indicted and almost put in jail? The guy is dirty. How can we think he’d faithfully represent us?

The only negative they have on Hugin is that he was Celgene’s CEO and made a lot of money. NOT A CRIME. He also made a lot of money for his shareholders which was his fiduciary responsibility.

What has Menendez done? He’s got not Fiduciary role. He’s just a Fi-douche

The NJ Supreme Court will switch the candidates if Menendez falls too far behind.

Dems will issue the call ‘bring out your dead!’. Voter rolls will be scoured for anyone registered to vote in the past 150 years and a ballot will be cast for them.

Not getting excited over this one. It’s New Jersey.
If all else fails the Tony Soprano-types will steal it.

In a blue state, you are never up unless you are 5 points ahead. Anything closer falls into the "margin of cheating".

A dead heat always goes to the Dems:

"OMG! Election officials have just found a rusting Studebaker full of ballots in the Bayonne impound lot!"

Almost time for the Torricelli Switch.

Hello, Senator Chelsea Clinton!

New York can’t dump toxic waste in New Jersey anymore

So that isn’t going to happen

Thank God

I believe the NJ Supreme Court found a brand new constitutional right with Torricelli. Not to a fair election, but to a ‘competitive’ election.

Ouch, that is going to leave a mark

Menendez won his primary with 6 out of 10 margin, where the other guy running against him was totally unknown, nobody knew who he/she/it was, never ran a campaign ad, or spent a single dollar or raise a single dollar. 4 out of 10 democrats voted for that guy, a total true unknown.

Usually candidates like that don’t get above the single digits

Come on joisee. You can do it. Hard to believe how much of our freedoms were fought for in the NE quadrant. And now look. My kin buried off the Hudson River are spinning in their graves.

“A NJ pickup in the senate will be HUGE!”

The Republican running against Menendez is a Democrat. Just not a crazy leftist. Something about Menendez’ record of abusing women needs to be investigated.

If the Republican is not corrupt, or not as corrupt, maybe he can pull off an upset?

This would be a nice unexpected addition this fall...

Don’t know enough about the dynamics of this race, but the D definitely isn’t polling well... only 45% in NJ???

I have believed all along, R’s will gain 6+ this fall, and if wind blows JUST RIGHT they could get double digits.

This Kavanaugh fiasco certainly appears to moving those winds closer and closer to “just right”...

Hugin is not corrupt. The worst thing they can throw at him is he made a lot of money in pharma.

He’s a Marine, but milquetoast as a conservative. A thousand times better than Menendez though.

NJ elects a fair share of not-too-conservative Republicans.
