Senate set for rare all-night session ahead of Kavanaugh vote

The Senate is expected to stay in session all night Friday as senators brace for a final vote Saturday afternoon on Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination.

The Senate voted 51-49 earlier Friday to advance Kavanaugh's nomination. Under the chamber's rules, senators have an additional 30 hours to debate his nomination before a final vote takes place.

Senators are expected to burn up the 30 hours of debate by staying up all night to give speeches on Kavanaugh's nomination from the Senate floor.

A spokesman for Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said they believed Democrats wanted to speak from the Senate floor throughout Friday night and into Saturday. A Senate Democratic aide confirmed the Senate would be in session all night.

Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), a potential 2020 presidential candidate, was among those slated to begin speaking on Friday night, according to an advisory circulated by his office.

The rare all-night session comes as Kavanaugh appears to be a lock for confirmation.

GOP Sen. Susan Collins (Maine) announced from the Senate floor on Friday that she would support Kavanaugh's nomination, clinching the 50th vote he needed to be confirmed.

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) quickly announced after Collins that he would support Kavanaugh, making him the only Democrat expected to vote for him.

Republicans have a narrow 51-seat majority, meaning they can afford to lose one GOP senator before they needed help from Democrats.

GOP Sen. Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) voted against advancing Kavanaugh's nomination earlier Friday. She didn't specifically say at the time that she would also oppose him on final confirmation but is viewed by leadership as a likely no vote.

I was watching Amy Klobachar ( Retard-MN) She has something wrong with her mouth. She sounded like Bubba Gump.

Does anyone know when the vote will be tomorrow? Has it been scheduled (aside from the day)?

It takes them all night to “brace” for the vote. I just can’t get a picture of a fat democrat with their pants down around their ankles, bent over their desk, and both arms outstreatched and hands gripping the desk so tight their fingers turn white from a lack of circulation.

Let’s all give thanks that Juan McCain was gracious enough to take a dirt nap. If not for that, this nomination would have been tanked.

Adjournment Under the authority of the order of today, at 8:21 p.m, the Presiding Officer (Mr. Daines in the chair) declared the Senate adjourned, under its order of today, until 9:30 a.m. tomorrow.

Had to check to see if the Senate was adjourned, thought they may be trying some stupid trick, don't trust them as far as I can throw them!

Now I can enjoy the pity party;)

I’m listening to her too. She comes off sounding like she’s vulnerable and poor little me...sort of like Ford.

Yes, let the bastards stay up all night, instead of the Friday night partying. Let them work all night, like all the countless citizens who do shiftwork to keep our country going. Like all the thousands of military men who must be alert all night to keep our country free. Like all the thousands of military men and women who keep vigil to protect all of us. Like all the firefighters, law enforcement personnel, EMTs, hospital personnel, and all the other good people who keep us safe during the night hours. Let the fat pigs of DC work for a living!

We control the Senate. How about getting some mega dehumidifiers to take all the moisture out of the chamber. Those pinko orators would be hoarse in no time.

The Republican Senate leadership pulled out all the stops to help Murkowski after she lost the primary eight years ago and these are the thanks she gives them. I’m hoping most, if not all the Red State Dems lose and the R majority gets up to 59-41 so they can take her chairmanship away - let her join her friends on the Democratic side who act with such judiciousness. You unmasked yourself, Murkowski.
